Trailer "Stinger" Question

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS!


GOOD NEWS: I ordered a trailer stinger (that piece that sticks out from under the car) and I LOVE the way it works.

BAD NEWS: The cover that houses the key lock is dang near impossible to remove. I had to use a hammer and punch to knock it off. I see that the cover is keyed so it only goes on one way, but it still will not come off without using a hammer.

Anyone else have this problem?

We need some more information or pictures to help you. I have had mine on and off many times without an issue. The cover over the key cylinder is just a piece of plastic. The knob on the hitch must be pulled out to release. I leave mine on to protect the rear just in case I bump into something.

I know that a lot of you were loosing sleep over this, but I found the problem (that I probably created) and also found a fix!

AAAAAhhhh - the old buggered bump fix.

The handle that you show is not intended to come off the hitch. After you insert and turn the key, you pull out on the handle and turn it to release the hitch from the vehicle. The handle then stays out until you re-engage the hitch whereupon it rotates down into the locked position.

Hey Guys,

I have seen a couple people asking about the SSR's towing capabilities.

I have a 2004 "Full Tilt" Yellow with the trailer towing option.

I have a 17 foot travel trailer - The Carlisle Hilton - weighs about 3500 to 4000 lbs.

I have towed it all over the place this summer - to Ocean City - 165 miles - to Deep Creek Lake - 178 miles and up big mountains - some 4 miles plus up - and, of course, to Carlisle - 129 miles - My SSR tows it like it isn't even back there! I'm very impressed! All I did was add about 5 lbs of air to all the tires.

The thing that impressed me the most was that it rarely downshifted and mostly towed in fourth gear!

I have spots at the Spring and Fall Carlisle Events and this is why I got the trailer.
Up til now I had towed the trailer with my 96 Impala SS. It towed it mostly in third gear.

Also, the Impala gets about 20MPG normally and 9-10 towing the trailer. The SSR gets about 17MPG normally and 12-13 towing the trailer!

Oh yeah, all the mileage figures are one way.
