tranny problems

Did not go to Springfield,,,,, I had a 3200 stall speed converter installed in the Roadster......06 auto,,,,,,,got the vehicle out of the shop on Thursday and on Friday the tranny went out to lunch. The shop stated the thrust bearing between the gears came apart......and had nothing to do with the torque converter.....need some advice.... they stated a rebuilt or a new trans from GM ,,,the vehicle only has 9500 miles.....any and all comments are welcome at this time.......Blueroadster06

we oun a transmission shop. that is going to be a tough call, normally if the torque converter is not installed properly it will distroy the pump, not anything in the trans itself, it is rare to have a thrust washer go bad unless the endplay is not set right. it happens but its not that common.

I agree with Double-D it is an odd and perhaps coincedental occurance that a thrust bearing would fail so soon after the converter was installed. The input shaft would have to be bottomed out in the converter turbine to put enough load on the input bearing for it to fail. The turbine is splined all the way to it's end so the shaft has nothing to bottom against. Make sure your converter was built as a 300MM replacement and not a 298MM replacement , it makes a big difference and is the only explanation I can think of beyond just and unfortunate bearing failure.

I just got back from running my '07 TrailBlazer SS real hard. I have been messing with all the transmission setting to get them dialed in after all the transmission modifications and this thing is out of control. It comes out of the whole and from a roll like a "Monster on Steroids". The exhaust tone is perfect and it literally scares people next to me when I get on it. I have had so many people just stare in disbelief/amazement!!!

Thanks for everything Greg!!!

What upgrades did you do to your 07 Trailblazer SS? Have you done any motor work or just Transmission? Also, what stall is your converter?
Just curious as I have been trying to decide what I want to put on mine. It only has 4800 miles and so far I have only changed the stereo system and muffler.
The fun stuff is next!

DOUBLE-D - I have changed the pistons to Forged Mahle Coated at .010 overbore. The rods are now Eagle Forged with ARP Rod Bolt. I am using the stock crank so it is now a 370. I also have the MagnaCharger and Kooks Headers with dual 3" Exhaust. The Transmission and Torque Converter were all designed by Greg at Phoenix, I would not have anyone else build a transmission for me (except myself, hahaha). Give me a call if you have any questions or need any help.

The LS engines use a 300MM torque converter which is different than a regular 4L60E converter both internally and externally. Most aftermarket converters in the stall speed range you are using do not look like the converter they are replacing so it may be possible that a converter from an older style 4L60E was used instead of the correct one for the application. This is just a theory, but check the part number on the converter with the manufacturer and be certain it was built as a 300MM replacement for your LS2 engined 4L65E. If your shop has any questions they can call me @817-599-7680
