Have a 2004 ssr . It shifts from First to Second gear great . Then trans slips badly and tach revs up high trying to get to 3rd gear it stays reved up and i dont want to push it to get to overdrive Anybody had a similar problem.. Dont want to get beat by shady transmission shops Thanks Ken... PS car only has 50000 miles
mine was doing the same thing when i took it in in july. 2nd gear would rev up then finally go into 3rd.
chevy replaced the #2 band under my gmpp.
my truck had less than 30k when i took it in.
Sound like what I had last summer after 34,340 miles.
Dealer replace turbine housing & pump cover, all clutches & 2-4 bands.
All covered under warranty.
That is a very common symptom of a 3-4 clutch pack failure, it usually doesn't happen till far beyond the 100K mile mark but sometimes it occurs with far less miles. PM me if you like and I can give some insight and opinions to help guide you in your repair process.
I allso hads this same problem, dealer replsed two bands and acuppel of valves. Shifts better than when it was new. Even the servo seams to work as i beleved it should have.I think my trany was not right from the gitgo.
Thank you guys Due to the economy it will stay parked till spring but at least i know what im up against... I didnt drive it much in the winter Have to go thru SSR withdrawal lol ... Ken from Jersey

While it is parked for the winter you may want to use a trickel charger
Papa: Do yourself a favor and take the trans to Greg Ducato in Texas. IT WILL BE THE BEST MONEY YOU WILL EVER SPEND ON THE SSR. I speak from experience. He did mine about 5 years ago and I couldn't be more pleased. And I do race this truck on occassion. Shift is incredible and strong. His guys know what they are doing. I drove over from Shreveport spent the night and it was ready to go the next day. Well worth the time and money!
i live in new egypt nj near six flags great adventure i wil contact greg about costs but i would have to ship this trans back and forth which could be expensive thanks again all happy holidays ken from joicy
Well my baby just did the 3 band 2 step and it looks like a part of a growing list. What was your repair costs for replacing the 3 & 4 bands? I`m heading to the dealer this morning and already my spincter has puckered up.
My SSR: '05 Auto Redline Red #20727.... Born on 05/05/05...

I recommend you get the SSR to or have the tranny shipped to Phoenix Transmission in Weatherford, TX.
We bought the 2004 Chevy SSR for our son's graduation present on Oct 31st, 2011. So we have had the vehicle a little over 60 days. It had 24,000 miles on it when we bought it and yesterday, the transmission messed up. It did the same thing as posted above. Shifts fairly hard from 1 - 2 gear and then will not shift up. The tac just revs up.
We purchased the extra warranty thank God, so we just dropped it off at the dealership today to get the diagnosis done and hopefully they will not give us any run around. Any advice on what they might say (tricks they might use to not fix it completely or right)
Thanks!
Lynn
If they don't have a trans builder at the dealership they will probably install a reman unit from GM. At 24K miles you haven't even reached your first service interval yet so I wouldn't worry too much about them denying a claim.
