We were looking for several things in a school. She has never lived anywhere but Jacksonville and wanted to go away. She really doesn't like the heat so we were looking for a northern school. She also is a soccer player that isn't quite good enough for Division 1 or 2 but certainly can play Division 3. We also were looking for a small school <2000 students.
There are no Division 3 school in Florida and all the state schools are way to big. We have family from the Pittsburg area so she had an interest up that way. She will apply to Westminster in New Wilmington, PA, Washington and Jefferson in Washington, PA and Thiel College in Greenville, PA. Her first choice is Thiel. She had a very good meeting with the coach and went to lunch with some of the current players. The admissions office was great. In short, of all the schools, Thiel made her feel at home. Greenville is a town of 12,000 and is very safe, so good old mom and dad feel pretty good about it.
As far as driving long distances, I have made much worse drives then this one. The furthest I drove in any sigle day was the first day from Jacksonville to Charleston WV, about 650 miles. I have driven Jax-NYC, Jax-Kansas City, Jax-El Paso and finally Phoenix-Jax all in one sitting. The Phoenix-Jax drive was the worst but not for the reason you think. I had driven out for the Nebraska-Florida national championship game at the Fiesta Bowl in 1995 (or as we call it the Fiasco Bowl). We lost something like 65-17 so I was not in a very good mood leaving the game. I was so pissed I got in the car and headed home. 36 hours later I pulled into the driveway and didn't talk to anybody for days
