Unhappy under hood cover

When my hood prop rod bent it tore the black cover under the hood. Are there nicer aftermarket ones being made or does anyone know the best place to get one. My local dealer had that deer in the headlight look when I started talking to him about the SSR.

underhood pad

I'm sorry I don't think I explained what I am looking for very well. It's the cloth piece that is attached to the underside of the hood. When the rod bowed, it pushed up and put about a 6 inch slit in the what I think might be sound proofing. Thanks for any suggestions.

And when you get tired of replacing it again and again ( ) You can buy the hood struts from LST (Support Tech) and get rid of the hood prop. I did.

Well.....I see you found them already.....so, never mind.

Red face Rod vs struts

Will that rod keep bending? I thought it was just mine. I sent an e-mail requesting info on those hood struts any idea what they cost. If that's the case I will get a new pad and wait to put it on until I replace the rod. I wasn't aware they were defective. I just thought they bent from the weight of the hood, or is that why they bend ? Do the struts fit in the same holes the rod does or is drilling required? Thanks for the part numbers for the pad and retainers, how much was it, my dealer looked at it and said he couldn't find it to order it. I knew that newer SSR's had the struts but he said they aren't available anymore.

LST Supports.

It comes in a kit with everything you need.
Black or Chrome around $200 bucks, I think.
Contact them, it was the best thing I did for my 04.

Once it's bent, I believe it will keep bending. It gets weaker every time, til it won't even stay up. I think the only reason they may bend in the first place is someone attempts to put the hood down forgetting that there is a prop and not struts; therefore, bending it and tearing the hood blanket.
There is a small amount of drilling for LST's struts. I just paid the shop to do it while they were fixing something else. There are plenty of people on here who did it themselves or went to an SSR event where someone else did it for them for FREE.....good people here...

Good info. When my fan went, the tow truck driver went to close the hood and bent mine... He's supposed to pay for replacement of that part for me, but I might just go ahead with an upgrade when I am ready.

One of the best upgrades will be replacing the prop rod. The next would be to clear coat both sides of the blanket before installing it. It will help keep it from staining once any water soaks it. You may have to paint the visible side black first, as I did. I hijacked this idea from another fanatic some time ago. It also gives the blanket some added "body" and will help retain it's shape better. See pics in galleries for purple hawk and yellow bear.

Strut it

Heyanrand,
I bought my struts from lst and ordered stainless steel. They look real nice and work great on my 03. I see that you are in Annapolis. I'm about 18 miles south of you in Shady Side.Big Jim and I have been talking about doing a tech session here in Deale sometime in the near future. It might be possible to include a strut install.
I had my hood blanket torn at the dealer who replaced it for me N/C.

If you decide against the struts (BTW: I love my stainless struts), I have a, like new, never bent, prop rod that you may have for the cost of shipping.

PM if you want it.
