Underhood Blanket Repair?

The underhood blanket in my R has a roughly six inch rip in it; it was torn by that flimsy prop rod. That cute guy with the wonderful accent replaced said flimsy prop rod with the pneumatic lifts at Maggie Valley. Now I would like to do something to rectify that rip... but I do not want to spend the money on a replacement blanket.

Any suggestions on repairing the tear? Has anyone else done this, and how well did it work? I have ideas, but sometimes things don't work out in reality as well as they work in my head!

Mine was torn as you describe when I bought it. I had Mike in AZ stainless steel hood struts installed (no more prop!!!!) and bought a new hood liner(blanket) from the dealer. No worries now!

Here is the link to Mike in AZ for the hood struts.......you won't be sorry!

Yeah, I was thinking something along this line, using high heat tape, glueing in the edges with a thin line of epoxy, then giving it multiple coats of high heat paint.

I already have a new set of underhood decals; the ones on the blanket now appear to have been installed when my truck's original owner was highly intoxicated!

As these are all things I have around the house, this means no unnecessary $$$ going out!

One thing about it, it cannot look worse than it does now. It can only get better.

The CNC laser cut aluminum letters have a WAY nicer look. And, they fit perfectly in the recesses. You might want to get yourself a set.

Vicki I too had the same issue with the tear and fixed it with black window screen material.
remove the blanket
After folding the screen material over the torn area sew around the perimeter. Reinstall. Mine is barely noticable.

Oh, I have seen those. "Way nicer" is an understatement!

But there's that part in my situation about saving $$$...

Hood Blanket

I installed the SSR Letters on my blanket and was rushing the glue to dry quicker hith a heat gun when I melted the surface .Ordered a new one from " Mike at Classic" and my SMART EMPLOYEE CUT IT INTO. Thought it was an "EMPTY BOX".

A nice polished stainless steel hood liner looks fantastic. Several Fanatics have them.

Might I suggest going to an apolstery shop, & see what they have to fix the tear.
