The strange part in the attached photo closes the ash try door when you shut the ash tray compartment.

It looks like what the parts book calls a latch-inst panel ash tray part # 89045011

they're trying to find the ashtray tether (holds it off the console)
doesn't come with the ashtray
or upper dash
or lower dash
or dash support

I told them I could make a new one, but I think it's personal now

That is a better explaination than I had been given before......but it sure is an odd shape and it clips in....like it's supposed to be removable.
