I am looking at installing the vinyl stripes from auto trim design. They have a lot of pictures on their web site of SSRs. I know some of them are from members here. I have two questions, are they hard to install and if you had them installed what did they charge. I have been quoted outrageous prices here to get them installed(like $800.00). I may just go with paint, it would be about the same cost once you buy the kit and have them installed. I was thinking vinyl in case I didn't like the look.

Vinyl stripes are not easy to install on a SSR. I have had them done twice, a good sign shop should be able to install them at a cost of around $400.00 the devil is in the curves. Having said that I have been very happy with mine both times.
click on my gallery to see both stripe configurations
Vinyl strips are the devil if you don't have at least some experience with them. If you have the ability to have them put on professionally, you are probably assured that they will be done correctly....and may have some kind of guarantee involved.
Showed a picture to a graphic sign guy, made them and put them on total price was around 200. He did say that he woud never do that again. My point is, check around I'm sure you will find someone who makes graphics and will install them. Have you talked to any bady men. These days of graphics on the sides of the new cars, some are dealer installed.........docrod
I've installed stripes only once on my C4 Corvette....NEVER would I ever consider doing them again. They turned out perfect, but I didn't know it was so hard to prep & apply. Go paint!
I bought mine off the one advertised on e-bay.A real DIY(do it yourself).Very cheap prices but good stuff.Pick the color you like, they are made to fit your SSR.Then you merely lay3-4 inch blue painters tape down the center of your truck.
Then you wipe on soap and water next to it.Then you peel the vinyl and slide it on the soap up against the tape. When you come to the tailgate, work from the bottom and go up to the lip. 11/2 hr job. Easy, you can do it!

Thanks everyone, still haven't decided how to go. It is funny, you read the posts and they go from "really hard" to "really easy" and "I love vinyl" to "go with paint". I am leaning towards paint, still not sure though.

I hear ya, Shadowman.
I've been thinking about One Big Black "SKUNK" Stripe on The Doophus for years now. One point all of my researching has taught me is both Paint and Vinyl Stripes, if done professionally, look the same and cost about the same but the Vinyls can be removed much easier if I change my mind.
My SSR: '03 #01155 Painted stripes, Flomaster, K&N air system, Port/polished Throttle Body, Custom Tuned
The paint looks a lot better to me, especially under a few coats of clear!
You can wax right over it and not worry about getting chalky dried wax on the edges like on vinyl.
Granted you have to know you really want the stripes permanent.
I am assuming you are talking about the racing stripes. I won some in Colrado last year If they are the same we were told pretty easy to put on but we found a place in town to put them on for us. Did not want to take the chance and do them ourselves
He did a great job as you can see in the pictures and in the 3rd picture when the top is down he also added the space that would not have been covered and made it look like it should have always been there cost was 150.00 of the best dollars spent,
The guy that did them enjoyed working on our R and took extra care with it.
I would recommend him to anyone.
Mrs Duck,
Your stripes look real nice, looks like the guy done a fine job. Good idea having
someone who knew what they were doing put them on. It shows he has done this before.
Agree Mrs. Duck, love the white on red. I am thinking of going with silver metallic if I order from Auto Trim Design. I ordered a sample of the color and it was a dead on match for the 05 GTO Silver that I have on my rear spoiler and hood scoop. It is so close that you almost loose the sample when you lay it on the spoiler. If I had them painted I would go with that color as well, I like the Silver Metallic on Blur combo. One reason for paint VS vinyl for me if the fact that I want to go around the hood scoop and leave a two inch border all the way around it. Doophus, how about two tone, Black and Slingshot! There are a couple on the site painted that way. Put some lipstick on that pig!!!!!

I been thinking one big black stripe because wouldn't the Slingshot disappear on Slingshot?
Your idea of Silver on the Blur sounds GREAT. DO IT and then post pictures.
Lipstick on the pig comment - The process of arriving at some conclusion that, though it is not logically derivable from the assumed premises, possesses some degree of probability relative to the premises. Lipstick on the pig = stripes on the Doophus
