My SSR: 2006 Blue over Primer'd Bondo 6spd #23424 slapped together 2/22/06
What size are the pipes and muffler? PLEASE HELP :)
Hello everyone again, Happy Saturday!!!!
I've been searching the forum for hours, and I can't get a straight answer to some simple questions.
I'm changing just my stock muffler out for a Flowmaster (haven't decided on a 40, Super 40, Delta 40, or Delta 50 yet) but I need to know the basics.
I have a 2006 6 spd.
WHAT IS THE DIAMETER OF THE INLET AND OUTLET PIPES ON A 2006????
I've seen conflicting posts listing the inlet at both 2.75" as well as 3.00". I've seen the outlets listed as both 2.25" as well as 2.5". WHICH IS IT????
Also, approximately what are the dimensions of the stock muffler? The 40 series mufflers are only about 19" long, whereas the 50 series are around 23" long...but, people have installed both without saying what had to be fabricated. What would "fit" easier and/or better???
I have a 40 series on a Caravan and hate it, but it might be great on the SSR. The 50 might be a little too tame for me....so I'm leaning toward the Super 40, if it is what it says it is (nearly as aggressive outside as the 40, quieter inside).

I DID the search on mufflers on this site already. For HOURS. That is why I posted in my original post that I found conflicting information and pointed this fact out.
So no one here knows the answer to my simple questions??? Or does everyone here just go down to the muffler shop and say, "Yessum, sir, please give um me a new muffler, yessum sir!"
I'll go measure mine should take 5 minutes and another five for the burns since it's still hot. I'd hate for you to have to crawl under yours.
Mines lowered to make even harder to do.

Thanks! I'm too fat to fit under mine.
I just find it strange that no one can spit out specific dimensions, part numbers of Flowmasters, etc regarding the exhaust like they can regarding every other aspect of the truck........hmmmm, makes you wonder! Or, wander, whatever your fancy is.

Jolly good, that?
You'll find that some people here like to do thier own work and other like to have it done. Before I do any muffler change I need to get different wire and different gas for the mig. Might be easier to have it done.
That's what make this forum what it is, for the better, we're not all the same. It would be a boring place if it was...

Well you won't get a lot of help with post like that, I think they would know when you got a muffler what size will fit if you are going with your pipes, It isn't that easy picking a set of mufflers, You just want the sound, If you use your cats and pipes you can go with a louder muffler, I heard a Flowmaster 40 with stock cats and pipes and it sounded pretty good, I wouldn't want a 40 on my SSR but then again the 5,3's are louder than the 6.0's, I have a 50 with 3'' cat back, Headers and hi-flow cats, To loud for the streets for most, Next why not get some performance while you are paying for the mufflers anyway, A set of hi-flow cats are well worth the money or I think they are, Keep your stock ones, A lot of things you can do, 3'' duals with 4'' out lets, Now I have seen a 4'' cat back, Monster looking pip, Are you ever going with headers, It is not that easy, If you know someone with a SSR go and hear it, The sound clips on the net are useless, On and on

A lot of what I write in posts is just being silly. Makes some people laugh.
I'm not doing anything elaborate on the exhaust. You can get Flowmaster's new on eBay for about 50-80 bucks depending on the model. I know of a shop that will install one for about $50 as long as I buy the proper replacement. I'm doing it because it should be cheap and easy.
The reason I needed the dimensions is that I want to know which muffler to order to make installation the easiest with the least amount of dimension-matching adapters welded in. I figured someone here has done the same thing and could just say, "Yes I got Flowmaster 40 series model #943----- welded in with no problems" but I can't find that anywhere on here. It's starting to become a quest...so I might just leave it alone.
I didn't want a regular 40 series...too loud. I'm thinking the Delta 40 or Super 40 with stock cats, pipes, and manifolds.
Once you find out what muffler you are going to use you could post up the part number for the next member that wants to do this too. I am sure that there are other members that want a similar setup. I just dont want to mess with the stock configuration and didnt feel like crawling under the SSR right now. I need a pot of coffee before I am ready to go crawling all over the SSR for answers.

Please post whatever you end up with. I'm going with the American Thunder or a pair of Borlas. I would like duals..but looking for tone only. Good luck with your picks.

Just had mine done abut three months ago. I just went to my friendly muffler shop and told them what I wanted to do (go to true duals). My buddy recommended I go with the 50's (two of them) and leave the cats as they are. We cut the pipe right where it joins and went from there. Yes the 50's are larger but they went in the same spot at the orginal . They went side by side and then we used the stock tail pipes. Sounds great and cost less than $450 out the door.
Hope this helps
