What's up with this....

Hello Guys and Gals: I had my SSR up on the hoist yesterday and I'll be dammed
if the rear main seal is'nt leaking? Is this a issue with the LS2,I thought GM finally
licked this nuisance?! Every damm GM v-8 I ever had years ago had front and rear
main leak issues. I thought they finally cured the problem?! I have had Chrysler
products mostly for the last ten years and no oil leaks! This SSR gets the utmost TLC too,I don't beat it up while driving?! Oh well, thank goodness I have factory warranty to take care of it! Only 7200 miles on her?! Seems a little early for
oils leaks isn't it? Anyone care to comment?

TSB is for porosity of the cast engine block. The oil will seep through the block and make it appear as if the rear main is leaking. The TSB covers the LS2 as well.

I thought the leak was the result of hiring too many Brit Engineers after They abandoned the Brit Car scene.

Join the Club Hal,..My engine is leaking oil for the second time now as well with only 7200 miles on it. I had the leak TSB done last summer at about 4000 miles and they had to pull the tranny and it took nearly a week to fix. This is the 21 century you mean to tell me they can't make a motor that holds its fluids for at least 50K miles?? GM is simply making vehicles of poor quality today. The old slogan of "Its not your Fathers Oldsmobile" was quite correct Daddy's Olds was built with Quality Todays Olds.......Ahhhhh people stopped buying and GM stopped making,.. I wonder why GM??? This is just shameful in 2007 IMO. I just might go to the Dealer and demand a new engine since its been repaired before. I feel like stirring up some s-it over this issue now. I should think if the TSB fix didn't fix the problem and they are saying its a burred or porous block causing the leaks I should get a new motor that means the motor casting is defective.

I just posted this thread the other day Leaking Oil Even After TSB Fix??

Just a update to this thread...

Hello to all Fanatics: Well ,wanted to give those of you that have a concern about
the oil leak issue with our SSR 's; turns out it was just the oil pan gasket leaking from the center rear to give the first indication that it was either the rear main seal or worse,a porosity issue,(oil seeping thru the block). In our case they
pulled the transmission inorder to inspect the rear of the engine block,so while they had to do all this intense labor,my local chevy dealer R&R'd the backing plate gasket, rear main and oil pan gasket all at the same time and because they had to remove the oil pan toR&R that gasket, she got fresh 6qts of mobile 1,so I am thankful that it was'nt a porosity issue, otherwise, they would have to replace the
block with new according to the Service Manager at the Chevy Garage. They put everything back nice and tight and clean, like nothing ever happened, that's always
a goooooood thing for sure!! When we take our vehicles in for service,we have
this terible habit of thought to think the worst, and I did,so the moral to this little
story is;there is a silver linning in every cloud of negativity,if we choose to look for it?! Free...oil change along with lots of TLC...Thank You Grey Chevrolet for a job
well done!!

Wouldn't you think in this day and age GM could come up with gasket/seals that work?

Hmmmmm 7k must be the magic number! I have 7900 on my 04 and today had it serviced at a local place (not Chevy) and the service man told me there appears to be some leaking....he thought transmission, but this thread sounds right. The oil level was down a quart which I thought a little strange. Anyway....to the dealer soon to have it checked out.

This is typical Ricochet / Silver Sky banter. Bashing GM was a mission when you used those names, too, BetterMost.

Unless GM uses different material then the rest of the auto makers, this doesn't hold water either.

Get off the soapbox, BM. Your story ay have a different author but its just another chapter in the same ol tired book.
