I have found some wheels I am interested in putting on the SSR. They are custom made by American Racing to your specs and come in both 19 and 20 inch diameters.
My question is whether I should go with the stock setup of 19s up front and 20s in the rear, or go to 20s on both front and rear. I wouldn't expect the 20x10s to fit on the front, but if they did, could a pair of rear tires be used up front? If not, would I use 8.5x20s for the front?
My SSR: Black, '03, 1sb, #1256, License Plate was WOW FCTR

What brand/size tires are you looking at using?

If I were not upsizing to 20"/22" as you appear not to be doing, then I would stay with the 19"/20" stock setup. It gives the SSR the raked look that I feel it needs. True, you can get a raked look with a 20"/20" setup by going with rear tires with taller sidewalls. But to me the effect is not the same or as dramatic looking. Obviously the downside to being staggered, 19"/20" or 20"/22", is you can't rotate the tires. But heck, who cares about being practical with an SSR.....right?
Wheels are always a totally personal thing. But if it was me, I would not rule out looking at the custom wheels you are considering in a 20"/22" setup if they are available. I love mine in that setup!
Go with the 20" front (8.5" wide) and 20" rear (10"wide).
use the Toyo Proxes S/T tires
255/40-20 Front (same diameter as the stock Goodyear RS/A)
295/40-20 Rear (Same size as the stock Goodyear RS/A)

If the diameter is the same as stock on both front and rear the rake is the same and 20 inch tires simplify life a lot. I agree with Charlie

Use the Wheel Visualizer on Newstalgia Wheel's site. You can use an image of an SSR, top up or down, lower it, change colors, put different size wheels and tires on the front and back, etc. This is how we decided on both sets of wheels for our SSRs - sometimes it's surprising what looks good.
I would like to find a set of wheels that will give me the nostalgia look... Something like chrome Smoothies..... Anybody out there know of a supplier of Chrome Steel Wheels?

What combinations have you guys installed and found to clear ok? I'm looking to go with 20/22 a lower profile of course to keep the rolling diameter as close as possible but how wide can we get away with before we're in danger of rubbing?
My SSR: Originally Smokin Asphalt 03 #00099 now kustom graphics, tu-tone Kandy Lime Green/Pearl White

We have folks on the site that have everthing from 18's to 22's
Albeit All have differant preferances on size of tire and width.
I'll let some of the others chime in as to the 22's.
I've got 18x8 fronts and 20x10 rear.
