Appears to be right at the front of the tank.

Well you weren't crawling around on "my" back because I was doing that!
I didn't put in a great deal of effort but couldn't feel it and couldn't get my head in far enough to see.
From the Helm's Service Manual diagram it appears to be tucked near the frame at the front.

Thanks I would rather have the gas filter under the car than in the gas tank. I like changing mine once a year.

I realize you are "the man" when it comes to this stuff.
Does this mean the Helm's GM service manual is incorrect?
I have 2006 GMT-06-SSR-1.
Vol. 1 of 2 Sec 6-755 contains instructions & diagrams for removal and installation of an external Fuel Filter.
However, a diagram referring to Fuel Rail Assembly replacement shows a 5.3 engine cover.

Hope I dont jinks myself but I also have a 2000 chevy S10 with 150.000 miles on it and my regular maintaince is changing the gas filter once a year, never letting the gas gauage go below half a tank. My thinking is if you let the gas go below half you are exposing the fuel pump out of the fuel and I Believe the gas keeps the pump from running hot which extends the life of the pump.
