Windshield Wiper motor short

Once more into the mix......

was wondering if anyone else has had an issue with their windshield wiper motor shorting out after rainstorms. My SSR is in the shop for the 3rd time in as many years because rain somehow got up under the hood and shorted the wiper motor out. Is there a recall or something where Chevy will pay for this?

From what the service department is telling me, this sounds like a design issue, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

Not had that one come up yet.
Myself have been caught in the rain maybe 6 times, no problem.

There were a couple of people that had windsheild wiper motor problems....mostly, they would come on and not turn off.
CruznEd had a problem where water was entering the cabin from between the windshield and hood, might be similar type of problem? Black Betty has sprung a leak!! EEEEKKKKK.....

yeah, the interior isn't leaking, it's just the wiper motor that is the issue.

{rant}
Luckily, I got an extended service contract that'll cover all but $100 of the repair, but I'm quickly losing my patience with Chevrolet....When I buy a $50k car, I expect it to go more than 3 months without something breaking on it. {/rant}

I had problems up front, but I've driven tons of problem free miles since (I was at 141,848 this morning).

UPDATE: I spoke to GM customer service, and apparently since I have a 3rd party service plan, they (GM) won't reimburse me the $100 deductible that I had to pay to get the problem fixed. Long story short, they're not going to do anything despite the fact that the dealership that fixed it said that this was a design issue and will more than likely happen again....

Sorry to hear that...but again this has not been a widely reported issue...so I'm not sure how much of a "design" issue it really is.

It took numerous trips to the dealer and they never could fix my leak either. They just kept doing minor tweaking but solved nothing. I told them that I wanted to take it to our expert in the area, Walt's Water Works, and even they said the SSR had a design flaw in this area! They created a wonderful shield over the motor so the water would run off where it is supposed to in the future. I think it was six tries at the dealer and even Walt had to do it about three times to really fix it. Fabricating the shield was no piece of cake. That is certainly one area that Dan will never have to worry about.
