Winter Storage

We've had great weather here and I was able to postpone putting SSERENITY into hibernation until now. I put her on jack stands to prevent flat spotting the tires. Also has the benefit of unloading the suspension. Put fuel stabilizer in just before her last ride of the season. Put the trickle charger on. No way to fog modern engines so I wonder if I should just let her sit until spring or run her to operating temp every once in while. What have others done?

BTW...moving isn't an option.

Lot's of mothballs, bounce dryer sheets , Irish Spring slithers to keep mice out. Otherwise nothing. Fuel is topped off, tires at 35. That's it. I might disconnect the battery. Only 3.5 months SS RDZTR is back in action.

Well its 19 Dec and I'm still driving mine here in NJ. I even had the top down today. I'm still trying to get it cleaned up and ready for winter but I'm having too much fun driving.

...and the most important item not to forget for those that store their SSR over the winter months...call your insurance agent and let them know your vehicle is in storage! This will drop your collision coverage during that time thus reducing your insurance costs while in storage.

I like to keep the coverage full at all times in case I forget to reinstate or I feel like taking my R out. I'm stored but it only takes minutes to remove the mice stuff and take a cruise. Once it snows and "street salt" is present that's it for the season.

Mine probably won't be taken out again until the Laughlin Run. I always put a reminder note in my Treo 700P to reinstate full coverage on a specific date.

I do disconnect the battery on my Mustang each Winter and it's good to go in the Spring. If the battery is disconnected on the SSR..Is there a ground wire in the engine bay to disconnect? And what would we have to do at Spring start up? Reset anything other than the clock..Will the computer re-learn the idle and other functions? Thanks, Frank

I am setting mine up for the winter since I will not be driving her as often. Will put it under jacks and disconnect the battery. Does anyone use a cover while its in storage.

XSELER8, whats up with the dryer sheets? My neighbor puts a bucket of water next to his 56' Chevy to keep the humidity up, I started doing this as well.

Is there anyother advice for a first my time storing a vehicle?

Dryer sheets. They are suppose to repell mice. Also freshens up the interior..has a decent scent to it. The Garage stinks from mothballs. The dryer sheets help to reduce the MB odor in the R.
It's good to check on your SSR periodically. Look in the engine bay, cab & cargo. Make sure nothing is living in there.

Boo is right
One year I pushed it into late November cause the weather was still good. Hoping to get the same for this year
Dryer sheets are in my garage too.....heard they really work for keeping the mices out. Steve and I have seen field mice around this area

Last fall I had the oil changed, I added Sta-Bil to the tank and filled it up with fresh gas, and stored it in a climate controlled storage garage for six months. It fired right up with no problems at all come spring.

I did put four containers of D-Con mouse poison in the corners of the garage on the floor.

I don't suppose that Bounce would hurt anything and may repell rodents. But, I sure as heck won't use moth balls. I did that to my old '84 GMC 3/4 ton last fall and it stunk to high heaven all summer. Never again.

WINTER ... That's when you take her apart, and change things for the next year.
Because when the weather is nice she can't sit still, not even to be customized.
Let's see, more paint, 4;56, tune / recalabrate, belly pan, backup camera, interior, special lighting, maybe s-charger.

She is ready for winter

I put her on jackstands and made sure that she was as close to the wall as possible (wife parks her Mini Cooper next to the SSR). I also installed the under hood lettering that I recieved from SSR6SPD. Thanks

She looks great!

Just a thought... you might want to place plastic down under her and then cover her for the winter months. This way when you look at her all winter long you can dream of her sexy lines. Then when spring arrives your garage will look much brighter with the cover off of her.

Just a thought...

I have asked around to those who don't driver their SSR daily and they don't use covers. Garaged vehicles in Vegas just get dusty. Although I am looking into getting a cover.
