XM / Sirius Radio

I had lunch with Byers today and we were discussing how the new "Vette's" have their XM Antenna's in the mirror. Further investigation shows that it is available for either the right or the left mirror.

I then went over to the Classic Chevrolet dealership and looked at a SSR and a Vette sitting side by side, and deduced that both mirrors were identical, but had different part numbers. I also noticed that the antenna could not be seen, so it is behind the mirror, and aparently the motor in the mirror does not adversely affect the antenna.

Here are my thoughts on it. I know some people have XM or Sirius in their SSR's, but have debated on the proper spot for the antenna. If a Vette's mirror assembly is exactly like a SSR's why can't we just get a Corvette Mirror (W/X antenna) and replace one with the SSR?

Mike is going to order both mirrors and look to see if it is as simple as putting an XM or Sirius antenna in the mirror housing, or you have to buy the whole mirror assembly. We will keep you posted.

I am wondering if we purchase both can one house the XM/Sirius and one house the Navigation?

Armed with alot of posts and threads I went to my dealer and they put my antennae up on the metal bracket under the dash...never to be seen again. I get great reception and you'd never know anything has changed on my truck. If the vette mirrors fit and are cost effective, that's cool too. In any case the XM is sweet!

Xm & Mirrors

We are definitely interested in the mirror/antennae! We miss XM and have been waiting for a great solution. Keep us informed!

The one and only modification / addition I have made to my '05 SSR (purchased July 2005) is the addition of Sirius Radio.

The installation was done by a very talented close friend who installed the standard antenna (about the size of an Oreo cookie) under the forward portion of the dash just shy of the windshield.

So far, the reception has been absolutely flawless and there is no antenna in sight plus no special mirror stuff.

GOOD LUCK!

Hid the antenna under the dash on the metal bracket...

It works great... and is a great solution to any others I have seen.

The stock SSR mirror may even have room inside, as my antenna was fairly small.
Just a thought.
