In order not to conflict with the International Rally, the 2009 Beach Cruise will be a casual fun event intended for those unable to make the trip to Texas. No raffles or door prizes, no awards, no tent, just food, cruising, visiting with other Fanatics and the car show and auction.
The 2010 Peach City Beach Cruise will be promoted as an international event in the National section. Anyone coming to the 2009 Beach Cruise will be automatically registered for the 2010 International Event. The goal is 90 SSRs in 2010, and 80 rooms have been reserved.
New for 2009
Passports are now required for all movements between the US and Canada
Sounds like both countries are doing a "soft" phase in for 2009, but those coming from the US may want to confirm that before attempting to cross.
The Okanagan Valley made MSN's top 10 list of places to visit in 2008. One of only two North American destinations to make the list.
We will be able to leave our SSRs on the grass Friday and Saturday night. Security will be on site, eliminating the logistics of parking at the hotel. Parking will be tigher this year with the auction happening on the second and top floors of the parkade.
The Peach City Beach Cruise is in its ninth year, with over 650 cars participating in the 2008 show. Registrations for the 2009 Beach Cruise will be capped at 700 cars.
The setting is spectacular. The car show is staged from the Lakeside Resort Hotel (The long pier at the center of the photo) all the way to the SS Sicamous, at the far right, just before the river channel.
We will be using the same park area to the right of the hotel on the photo below. We'll be just off the beach, on grass, directly across from the outdoor entertainment area and concessions.
Entry fee is $30 Canadian ($30 US). Registration is for driver and vehicle. The Saturday night meal is a sit down buffet at the Lakeside Hotel, and is not included in the basic registration price. I would recommend including the cost of the meals when you register either online or by mail. We will again arrange an early meal time and cruise afterwards. Registration includes free entertainment all weekend, a poker run on Friday afternoon, the Parade of Iron through the city Friday night, an evening show and shine Friday night, the car show Saturday and a Cruise on Saturday afternoon. Breakfast is available at a nominal cost on Saturday and Sunday. The award ceremony is at 11:00 AM Sunday, ending approximately 12:30.
I would recommend pre-registration. Makes the process much smoother when you arrive. Category entered: SSR.
Online registration is available this year, and will give our US friends a bit of a break on registration cost. They will accept checks for mail in pre-registration, or cash at the site. As per supersleuth Sue, US postage to Canada is 72 cents.
The Poker Run Friday afternoon will be to 9 wineries and the pub in the Naramata area. First prize is a case of wine, second is 1/2 case. SSRFanatics Peter and Cindy (DRAGN) won the case of wine in 2008. Frankmp from Edmonton won the case of wine in 2007. Reports from participants in the poker run are very positive. It's an all-day event - you can rush through, or stop anywhere along the way and enjoy some wine tasting or scenery. Cards must be turned it at the SS Sicamous registration center by 5:00 PM
The Lakeside Resort Hotel is a luxury hotel on the Beach. It has a pub, the Magnums restaurant indoors, a patio eating area, and the Hooded Merganser Restaurant built over the water. It also has a Casino.
If you check the photo of the hotel on the link below, the park area is just over top of the Hooded Merganser restaurant on the right, past the giant tree.
I have booked 40 rooms at the Lakeside - 20 lakeview at $185 CDN per night and 20 parkview at $165 CDN/night. This is a very good price during prime tourist season, and only a $5.00 increase per room over the 2008 rate. I would appreciate if all those prepared to commit to coming next year would post their intention to do so on this thread and book their rooms under SSR Fanatic, Group code 6875. Rooms are available Thursday through Sunday. The hotel's toll free number is 1 800-663-9400, ext 1 [color="Red"][size="3"]
There are a lot of other motels/hotels available, some at lower cost. The Lakeside is very convenient, at the center of the Beach Cruise.
Lots of positive comments on how this first two year at the Beach Cruise went.
Name Tags - Please keep your name tags from the 2008 Beach Cruise. Sue will make nametags for new participants, but there should be no need for her to re-do last year's tags.

Friday is an open day, so many opportunities to check out the local foods.
You can print this list by clicking on #3, then printing the single post.
Breakfast
Elite Restaurant - 340 Main St. old fashioned restaurant like every small town used to have. Last time we ate there, they still served milkshakes in the metal containers.
Shades on Main - 1909 Main St. - long time local breakfast favorite
Lakeside Patio- outside the front doors on the waterfront. On a nice day, can't beat it.
Lunch
Naramata Pub - part of the wine cruise, so you need to drop in to get your card validated for the poker run. Great place for a noon or early afternoon meal to tide you over till after the parade.
Barrel Room Bistro at Hillside Winery - one of the wineries on the cruise - also good lunch meno.
Red Rooster Winery - also on the wine cruise, good lunch menu on their outdoor patio. Stunning views of the Okanagan Valley. They have a very cool old pickup on the corner of the property for photo ops.
I would recommend continuing beyond the wineries and the pub into the town of Naramata.
Naramata Heritage Inn & Spa - 3625 - 1st St. - very old, restored hotel. The Cobblestone Wine Bar is a great setting for lunch.
Dinner
Hooded Merganser - over the water at the Lakeside. It will be very busy. I would recommend getting reservations if possible for groups of 6 - 8 people. Great food. The yam fries are a must. The hotel also has the Barking Parrot bar and Magnums, a more formal dining room.
Salty's Beach House - close to the Sicamous. Indoors, or upstairs, or on the patio. Great food, great attitude, really fun place to be.
Mykonos - 3 blocks up on Main St. Run by the same family forever. Pizzas, lasagna, greek dishes
Theos - by far the most popular local hangout. Family run, excellent greek food
La Casa Ouzeria - 1090 Main St. driving distance, Greek and Italian. Excellent food.
Lee's Overseas Delights - 139 Westminster Ave - two blocks up from the beach. Small, family run sushi, japanese and some chinese dishes. Cash only. We try to get there at least a couple times a month. Closes at 8 PM. The chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki boxes are great value.
Earl's - 1848 Main St. - their clam chowder is excellent. Nice range of dishes.
Black Iron Grill and Steakhouse - 152 Riverside - on the Days Inn property. Haven't made it there yet, but very good reports on their steaks.
Dream Cafe - 67 Front St. On a very colorful old street, only a couple blocks from the beach. Quaint, small, very different, multi-cultural menu
Front Street Bar and Bistro - 151 Front St. Their outdoor cafe is great - lots of hot rod traffic cruising by

The Peach City Beach Cruise will be featured in My Classic Car episode number 13. I do not know the air date at this time. This program is found on the Speed channel.

Hi, Mark
Here's the note from the Beach Cruise website.
Watch for the 2008 Beach Cruise to be featured on the TV show "My Classic Car" during the week of May 17 2009 on SPEED CHANNEL.
There should also be another episode, or possibly part of the same one, featuring the Nixdorf Classic Car Museum, and a tour of the Summerland area.

I have a boat storage yard in Summerland. If you do trailer it down, we should be able to park your tow vehicle and trailer in a locked, fenced compound for the weekend. Please forward additional information as below, including SSR color..

Glad you're joining us Kelly.
I've got you all on the list, but I could use more info, preferably by email. I'd like full names, name of wife/passenger, street, city and postal code, plus phone numbers for our records. I'll add the info to the post as I get it from you
My SSR: Silver with Pink Ghost Flames, Pink Lettering & Flares with PINK Bow Ties on Rims!
Wonderful Memories....... Fabulous Event
however, it looks like most of our Washington SSR Clan is eagerly looking forward to Penticton 2010, and feeling depressed at possibly missing the fun in 2009 ! However, don't count a lot of our NW SSR's out yet !
Let us know if we can help, Ray !

ps- Ray: please PM me the number of that lovely B&B we stayed at in 2007 (remember the one next to your friends)! It was outstanding. If another SSR fanatic likes these kind of accomadations I know she had room for two couples....place was great, close to the event, and breakfast to die for!

You can start beating the bushes to see who's joining us. Mark is already registered.
There's no excuse for missing 2009 - unless they're going to Texas. Looks like a pretty good start from the Albertans. Registration letters and emails going out in the next week or so. 40 Rooms booked at the Lakeside. Elvis Festival on at the same time for the Elvis fans.
I didn't expect to see any of the long distance runners this year, but we should still see a pretty good turnout.
It'll be a great party.

OK, Frank You can come - but if you win the wine this time, we're having a party on Beach. None of this skulking off to drink it by yourself.
I'll do some digging and try to find the name of the B & B for you.

Hi Ray, Thanks for posting my name in with Kelly's, but just like 'Jugboat' my name was spelled incorrect. I spell my name with two 'Y's. Thanks, Cyndy
