Debbie and I left for Penticton this morning. We got out of the house about 6:45 and launched due north. Typical ride through the usual surroundings on the way to Flagstaff where we met up with Frank (OLBSSRD) & Connie (Blueeyes) in their blur. A quick breakfast had us on the road north toward Page and then through southern Utah to Salt Lake City for the night. About 650 miles today. Most of it above 75mph and we still got 20.5 mpg. I don't know how we did that. Actually....... I used the cruise control a lot and kept my right foot off the pedal. Go figure....
Pic 1 is my wonderful copilot awake in the morning sun.
Pic 2 is of Frank & Connie, just north of Flagstaff.
Pic 3 is the same wingman farther north in Arizona.
Pic 4 is the "scenery" between Flagstaff and Page.
Pic 5 is the formation fliers at rest near Lake Powell.
More to come....
Mike

We were on the road for 12 hours today. This included breakfast, lunch, a gas stop ($88 fill up) and a number of leg-stretch breaks.
Pic 1 is some of the scenery change through southern Utah
Pic 2 is more of the differing scenery as we went through the afternoon
Pic 3 is another change headed north
Pic 4 is included for you to note the snow on the mountains just south of Salt lake city
Pic 5 is the formation fliers joined by Mike Powell at the Hotel in SLC.
It was really great to see Mike again.
Headed to bed now. Off to Yakima in the morning.
Great day today....

Have a safe trip Mike. Did you go through St. George Utah on highway 15? I'm trying to move there within the next year if I can ever sell this QX56. Love SLC been there about five or six times skiing.

M & D, we are sorry to see you two are having such a terrible time. I am sure things will improve once you return home and get back to work.
NOT
Totally jealous, but we will be taking our own fabulous road trip on Friday, down to Kerrville. True, we don't have to cross through a lot of states or a border to get there, but at least it will be hot and humid.
I bet you are the jealous ones now.
Keep those pictures coming.

We covered 700+ miles today. Left Utah, crossed Idaho, crossed a corner of Oregon and settled into Yakima for the night. A long day in the saddle.
Pic 1 is between Salt Lake City and the Idaho border. pretty sparsely populated..
Pic 2 is more of northern Utah with the formation flier in the mirror.
Pic 3 is obvious...... scenery change to come....
Pic 4 is a rest stop just into Idaho. Formation fliers at rest.
Pic 5 is the scenery change in Idaho. Makes you feel kinda small sometimes.

Pic 2 is an amazing combination of trailers on one truck. This must be a special extension of multiple trailers for this part of the country. Wow, was it long.
We met up with the California pair, Lloger (Lloyd & Gerry) & Blue Thunder (Jeff & Debra) tonite when we checked into the hotel in Yakima. The four of us will be departing here in the morning for Penticton.........
That's it for me..... Off to bed.

We made it
We made it to Penticton at about 6:30pm last night. Too late for the dinner meet up. Got up this morning nobody up yet all the rest are sleeping in, I guess. I was up at 6am, filled the with gas even more expensive than in $So Cal .Met some fanatics from Alberta, looks like we are going to have a real nice day.
First picture is the parking for Zia's. Second picture is at one of the wineries during the poker tour. What a great time and what a great host Ray is!
We left Penticton late in the morning, and traveled through Grand Coulee to Spokane. I couldn't believe how slow everyone was driving, and with no Interstate until we reached Spokane, it was amazingly frustrating!!
However, once we hit I-90, we made good time. Pic of my speedo below shows we cruised (forgive the shaky image - was driving and shooting the pic at the same time).
Note the pic below - can you see the tach needle on the left? Sitting solidly on 2k rpm? What's that, somewhere around 70? Yep, time for a visit to the dealer for troubleshooting. We stopped at a rest area and sitting still with the engine off registered 90 mph.
However, with the speedo broken, I drove like crazy and if I got stopped, I had proof that I couldn't tell how fast I was really going!
