The light bar is attached with magnetics Dwight is right. This is our personal truck (a Christmas gift from Mark to me) The SSR does not respond to any emergency calls. It's only unofficial fire dept. duty is on Christmas morning when I drive Santa Claus to each and every home in our fire district to deliver donated toys to children and candy canes to the adults and the light bar is not installed. The dedicated volunter firefighters spend 5-6 hours of their Christmas morning in the community. There are alot of photos of the SSR on Christmas morning with top down (regardless of the weather) with children and families and Santa. It's affectionaly known as "Santa's Sleigh" This Christmas morning tradition for nearly 20 years (The SSR only the last 5years) now brings us as much joy as it does the children, elderly and the young at heart. I have witnessed Santa being chased by dogs, Santa hugging the elderly in a hospital beds and the glowing sleepy faces of children who still "BELIEVE"
We even purchased the light bar with personal funds. The only time the lights are used is when they are installed at an SSR function. No country funds of any kind are used. Hopefully this clears up the Legal question.

On your other point, I do not live on the road. I live at home or in motels, but I love to drive my so I take advantage of nearly every opportunity. I am home again (safely) for a bit and lucky to have my son visiting before school starts.
Thanks for the info Dwight.
It is very cool you are able to get to so many SSR functions!

That is very nice what you do and so cool the SSR can play such a role.
I hope my use of the term legality was not misconstrued. I wasn't meaning to infer illegal. I was merely curious as it seemed in order to have them it might require being an official vehicle as they have an appearance of permanence.
At the same time I knew this would render the roof inoperable requiring an easy detach method.
Thank you for sharing your stories about another of the "special" SSR's.

I am pleased to tell you that you have an incredible group of Northwest SSR FANTASTICS, and many are living within a stone's throw of Fox island - Port Orchard, Gig Harbor, University Place, Orting, Graham, Puyallup !!!! Traveling north to BC there are lots more avid SSR folks along your way, and south to Portland is a great group starting to grow their membership by having lunch together once a month !!!
