Jim and I have a friend that is transfering to work at the new Disney Vacation Resort in Ko Olina on Oahu. She needs to report by 7/31 and is not familar with the island at all. Does anyone have any information on the best areas for her to start looking for living accommodations and transportation?
My daughter just relocated there, and is lucky to have a friend there already. She has a place to stay. She is in the process of looking for an apt. In Lakewood Ranch, FL she lived on a golf course in a 3/2 townhouse. Rented for 2500. She is looking at a 2/2 apt. less than 1000 sq. ft. at 2300. Without an oceana view, does over look downtown Honolulu........Things are expensive. If it would help I will give you her number an let your friend call her.........My number is 386-233-3623..........docrod..Just taked to my daughter and she said to call her and she will be happy to help.............call me and I will give you her number........docrod

Ko Olina resort area is on the western side of Oahu (past the airport) about 45 miles from the City of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. I represent a Hawaiian Tour company and just sent out an e-mail to my travel agents with a short video and photos of this new resort. Anyone that would like to see them please send me their e-mail address. Jerry Carter/ Blue Sky Tours Hawaii/ jerry4hawaii@aol.com/

I was able to speak with docrod and obtain a phone number for his daughter that just recently moved to Oahu herself. I also have a co-worker that is currently visiting family on the islands. Our friend feels much better knowing that she has a couple of numbers to contact in the event she needs some help. Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. And special kisses to docrod!
oh wow, I didn't see this before sorry for not responding sooner. Been traveling throughout the pacific islands and I'm on Guam at the moment, so not much time to check in here
Hopefully your friend found something by now.
Because of traffic, it would be better to try to find something close to Ko Olina. Actually prices are cheaper out there too, and there are newer properties to choose from.
We just moved over to Waipahu from Kaneohe to save some $$. Not as pretty, but easier commuting and sunnier than windward side.
That Ko Olina resort is nice, we'are actually looking to buy property over there.
My wife is a realtor on Oahu and can help do a property search for your friends whether they are looking to rent or buy, and knows properties throughout Oahu quite well. send me a PM if interested in her help.

having have lived on oahu for 8 yrs and driving tour buses.i went to ko olina alot of times beautiful place to be at.i lived just above it in makakilo.probably the best places to find somewhat cheaper living is where akwares moved to in waipahu or just up the road in ewa beach.the traffic can be horrible especially going thru kapolei.as far as what the asking prices for rent are now having been gone since '06,one could only imagine.my daughter still lives in waianae and she sent me a picture of a pound of bacon on SALE for 13.59.wasn't that bad when we left.akwares wife being in real estate may be able to help out.being this is a july post hopefully she is settled in by now.

Sorry, haven't signed in for awhile. There are lots of areas you can look at but there are also lots of areas you need to stay out of.
Makakilo town houses are nice and its is actually quite windy and cool there.
Kapolei houses are newer but it very hot (down the hill from Makakilo)
Ewa has lots of newer houses, very hot there.
Waipahu is a rather old area with Royal Kunia being the newer section.
Mililani is closer to the "country" area.
Waikele or Gentry are on the outskirts of Pearl city.
All these areas are within 1/2 hour from Ko Olina, all would be counter flow traffic. I've lived in Central Oahu all my life so I won't list the areas to stay out of. PM me if you need them, don't want to offend anyone.
