Mt. St. Helen's Day Cruise & Dinner Date

Mark your calendars for Saturday August 1st, 2009 for the long awaited cruise to Mt. St. Helen's. Plan for a full day or partial day to view the mountain. REDRACR and GONBYBY are your hosts for this run.

My guys have made a re-con mission and have a full day planed for a trip to see this awesome mountain. We will meet up at the Mt. St. Helen's Visitor Center which is located on Hwy 504, 5 miles east of I-5 at Exit 49.

Meet and greet is at 9:30 AM at the Visitors Center. We will travel up the mountain to Castle Lake overlook and have a tailgate, bring your own snacks. We will be here approx. 1 hour. We will leave to go to the top of Johnson's Ridge and we will spend about 1 - 1 1/2 hours at the top. You can walk around and see this awesome site.

We will leave there to cruise back through Morton (pit stop) and on to Eatonville for our early dinner. We plan to be there by 3:30 PM. The Italian Restaurant has been featured on King 5 News and Evening Magazine. The name of the restaurant is Jebinos....More than a restaurant, and the owners are friends of ours.

We must have your reservation if you plan to do the dinner. I will need this by July 24th so I can let John know a head count.

If you cannot make the whole day, you can hit the road after the mountain viewing.

We will have written directions at the visitors center meet and greet. If you want to cruise together to get there (Visitors Center), make your own group plans.

Please RSVP to this thread so we can get a head count for the day cruise and also for the dinner portion of the cruise.

We keep on having SSR Fanatics Fun!

That should be a great run! My wife and I did that years ago shortly after the eruption and the contrast between the unaffected areas and the areas that were impacted by the eruption were stark to say the least. AMazing place. I love the view of Mt. Rainer from St. Helens at sunset. That could be a real kodak moment for you guys Cant wait to see the shots. Be careful coming down the mountain at night because we heard tales that Sasquatch is out there waiting for humans on his turf! We had a campfire meeting with an old guy that told story about the place and he scared the heck out of us!

Hal,

Jack and I figured those from the north could meet us at the park-n-ride at Hwy I-5 and Hwy 512 (next to the McDonalds). Jack will post a meeting time soon.

FYI- For those of you that may be coming from up North or East, there are two motels in Puyallup on South Hill. The Park Plaza at (253) 848-1500 or the Holiday Inn Express at (253) 848-4900. They are right on the way to the morning meet at the McDonald's parking lot at the end of Hwy. 512.

Hope to hear from all you SSR's that want to join us for this great cruise.

FYI: From the north, planning the time to meet at Exit 49:

I clocked the time from Bellevue to Longview, (exit 39) - exactly 2 1/2 hours at mostly 65-70 mph. Plan on two and a half hours to get to Exit 49, Toutle River Entrance to Mt. St Helen's, even without traffic, maybe two hours plus from Tacoma. A great deal of road work is being done on I-5 as they widen a huge section. DOT trucks were running side by side at 45 mph to slow construction zone traffic for 11 miles !

since we are coming from south of St Helens in Oregon, where can we meet up with the caravan at perhaps somewhere north of Longview?

Be Careful on HWY 101

We drove up to Astoria a few weeks ago and coming back as we passed thru Warrenton on Hwy 101, the car in front of us slammed on their brakes, we hit our brakes and looked around to see what caused the stop, a black bear was trotting across the hiway in broad daylight, that would do some serious damage to the front of an SSR.

Good reason not to TEXT and drive !!!!

I had a similar situation when a good sized black bear ran out in front of my HUMMER as I was driving down the road north of Cape Kiwanda !!! He would have made an interesting Hood Ornament for sure, but he wasn't PINK !!

Stay safe everyone !!!

Meeting Place from Oregon -

I will gladly give you the name of others coming from Oregon, so you can meet and travel north together....... My suggestion would be to gather at the Target (Longview) Exit 39 and then travel together north to Exit 49, the Visitor's Center at St. Helen's.

I will keep everyone apprised of those planning to join the Cruise from the south and who would like to meet and caravan on north together !!

this is what we're planning -----

This sounds like a fun day and we would love to join in and see the mountain! I think we'll leave home early on the friday morn, drive down to Whidbey Island and jump on the Keystone ferry to Port Townsend. From there we'll head west on the 101 and ring around to the south and perhaps end up in the Hoquiam area or something closer to the I-5 exit 49 for the night. If anyone wants to join us we could meet at the ferry or something and sort out a plan.
Yes, we would also join the dinner plan on the saturday. With that being as early as it is, we would head home afterwards.

speaking of purple I went to buy some pink brads to make a "special" black leather shifter ball cover so I could bring it down for this meet and I found some rockin' purple brads, much better than the original ones. I'll update my thread as soon as I get the new and improved pictures on it.
Did you see the pictures from the Texas meet? A few of the U.V. owners had PURPLE ROCKS t-shirts

Talking Does this mean that Ricochet Silver..........

is the odd-ball once again ???? (Not necessary to make a comment - unless you are looking in a mirror )

Just reminding everyone to bring something to nibble on - of your choice, not necessarily to share, at the tailgate party along the way - !!!!

Let me know if anyone from Oregon has indicated a gathering from the southend for this St Helens cruise. Otherwise let me know about what time to meet everyone at exit 49.

Greetings,

Time is getting short for those of you that have not made up your mind about this fun day event. Jack & I need to have a head count for Jabinos restaurant by July 24th.

All of the necessary information is at the beginning of this thread for the meet and greet at the Mt. St. Helen's Visitors Center. I will post a separate thread for the meet and greet for those leaving from Tacoma.

See you all soon!
