NW SSR Run to Crystal Mt. for Lunch - Thursday, August 11
Northwest SSRs antsy to get on the road together - so, WEATHER PERMITTING - Thursday, August 11we plan to meet in Auburn (Hwy 167 - Hwy 18 exit - east about two blocks to Auburn Way (164) to the Safeway parking lot on the left !) at 9:30 AM for a scenic cruise to Crystal Mountain and a ride on their new Mt. Rainier Gondola to the Summit House for lunch !
Incredible view of Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Range - Tales of Derring DO (True stories from a former StockHolder & Wild Skier), incredible eats - all in the company of your wonderful SSR Family !
This is August, so how could we possibly have bad weather..............
Yea, I know it is 3 days before the Car Show in Port Orchard Show........... BUT..........Lets Cruize!!!!!!!
This is a great idea and I WILL be there RAIN or SHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not that familiar with AUBURN, so I am waiting for the meeting place suggestion from one of you Washingtonians.
I just did a RECON to AUBURN. Food for thought!
If we are having folks come EAST on RT18 via RT5 or RT167 from North or South, I suggest taking the RT164 exit off of RT18E and turning left at the light and pull into the parking lot at MICKEY Ds which is on the left. Plenty Room, Pottis (if needed), JAVA and easy back on RT18 East or West, whichever direction we are going.
Sue will lead us on our Cruize from there...........

Our group is coming from South Center and since NONE of us have ventured much into Auburn, we will be getting off at Hwy 18 exit from Hwy 167 and going to the Safeway on Auburn Way........... sorry, but I have NO IDEA where the exit is that you are suggesting, but very grateful indeed for your diligence and thoughtfulness !!! I anyone needs to stop before we head for the hills, perhaps we could ask you for your leadership to the Golden Arches !!!

Crystal Mountain RUN Memory Photos !!!!! WOW
FUN IN THE SUN and TOPLESS !!!!
Did we ever have a GRAND DAY to sneak away from the city !!!! This was well worth exploring and doing again !!! For Future reference, make RESERVATIONS for lunch at the Summit House before you leave and order something other than the Prime Rib Sandwich (Which covered the entire table!!!)

More from the Summit !
Crystal's elevation at the top is 6,800 feet above sea level. Mount Rainier is 14, 410 Feet - measured in 1956 because the 'Powers that Were" thought the old Pioneers couldn't possibly have measured correctly..... at 14,408 Feet way back when....... I was there when they re-measured the mountain, and for an additional 2 feet, all text books, maps, charts, and the rest of the nine yards of information had to be revised........... RING a BELL at what's still going on today????

The day was just incredible........ we all wish you had been with us !!
And now we prepared to head back down the mountain........ we all agreed that the first shot off the top - straight down - is a HUMDINGER on the stomach !!!!
We had a GREAT Day today, running around "Topless" and our "Sideburns blowing in the Breeze".................
Sue did a great job and the suggestion to go to the mountain could not have been on a better day.
The sky was clear and the weather perfect.
There are a lot of "Cruzin" pictures..........BECAUSE..........IT WAS A CRUIZE!!
I made a movie of the ride up the mountain but FLICKR said it was too big of a file. Unlimited does not mean 15 minute movies, I guess.
Enjoy the pics and those of you that didn't go try not to use too many tissues wiping the tears from your eyes.

Looks as though you all had a great day. One of these days Carol and I will be retired and able to join in the weekday fun. Hopefully will see most of you at Pt. Orchard this Sunday.
