Prayers and SSRfan Loving Arms for Ray (Flassh)

I received this email from Ray this morning stating that he is undergoing surgery for a Detached Retina which came upon him quite suddenly last weekend.

Quote:
I'm in a Vancouver Hotel, scheduled for surgery for a detached retina in the morning. The doc says I need to not move more than necessary for a couple weeks, and to spend my time lying down.

It's going to be a little strange to have someone pop an eyeball and cut it while under local anaesthetic.!!!

Don't know what happened, but I started losing sight in my left eye last Friday, and it was pretty much gone by Sunday. Sucks that it was our holiday weekend, and no one was available to even look at it till Wednesday morning.

Let you know how it all turns out, but this is probably my last message for a few days. Leaving here at 6 AM tomorrow.
I know he would appreciate your well wishes and support as you are all such a special part of his life !

God Bless You, Ray........

Sue

Ray, a good friend had the same thing happen just a couple of months ago. She is healing and making good progress, and you will too!! Good thoughts headed your way from Arizona!

Get well quickly, so you can come to Laughlin in January!

Hope all works out well for you Ray. You will probably have to do "positioning" where you will have to lie in one position for several days. Not a fun thing to go thru.

Been there, done that...23 years ago, long before modern techniques. All went well and I'm not even sure which eye it was.

Of course, I'm old and forgetful but suffice to say, my 40% detahcment went well and yours will, too.

All the best for a successful outcome!!

Update on Flassh.......

I talked to Ray earlier this evening - he is out of surgery and will rest at his Mom's home in White Rock, BC, for a few days. He fortunately did not have to go through the "bubble" recovery which meant he would be face down, 23 hours a day for two to six weeks !!

He promises to take it really easy and obey doctor's orders to stay still !! This will be a real test of obedience for Ray's Type A Personality !!

He thinks it will be several weeks before he gets back on SSRfan !

Thanks for all of your prayers, good thoughts and HUGS !

Sue,
Thanks for the information. If you talk to Ray again please pass on my best wishes and tell him to follow directions and all will work out just fine. The time will go slow at times but be over quicker than expected.

I talked to Ray about an hour ago. He sounded great and was more interested in talking about Autodan's visit with us later (tomorrow!).
He had the surgery this morning and all went well. He will pop back in tomorrow for a follow-up visit with the Doc and if that goes O.K. then he can head home
Take care Ray, we love you and want you back behind that wheel / or or

Sandy

Thanks to everyone for their wishes and prayers.

Had a checkup with one of the surgeon's interns on Saturday to remove the patch. He said all looked good at the time. Spent the last couple of days being pretty lazy, except for some paperwork and phone calls.

Saw the doctor yesterday afternoon, and all looks good. Couldn't tell by looking at me - I look like Mike Tyson went a couple rounds with me.

I had a scleral buckle (check out a video on youtube for a look at how they treat an eyeball), then laser to reattach the retina, and the gas bubble to pressurize the eye to hold the retina in place.

Sounds like the gas bubble technology must have changed. I didn't need to lie face down for it to work. Just waiting for the bubble to dissipate so I can drive through the mountains. One more day should pretty much do it. It's broken up into several smaller bubbles today.

Looking forward to becoming a bit more mobile in a few days.

Thanks again to all my Fanatic friends.
