55 Chevy

I ran across this article while looking at the concept of the SSR from the beginning and the practice of using Clay models to design cars. It said the SSR was not designed from a Clay model rather was a CAD design and the Clay was built later for a show. Anyway what I found most interesting was the connection with my favorite car of all time the 55 Chevy, and here I always thought the design was more from the 49 Chevy truck which I also owned. Here is the quote:
(Cherry says that people have asked why they didn't design an up-to-date version of the '55 Chevy—perhaps à la what their cross-town rivals did with one of their classic cars of the '50s. He points out that one of the benefits of designing in math is that it is possible to overlay the design of one vehicle on top of another and see how they compare. Someone had created a math model of the '55 Chevy. When they did an overlay with the SSR, they discovered that there were several striking similarities, such as wheelbase, overall height, chair height...)

Which helps explain why I LOVE MY SSR. It is a compilation of my two favorite vehicles of all time, the convertible 55 Chevy and the 49 truck!

I have to agree with you,I had four 1955 chevys and loved them all,to this day my
favorite is the 1955 chevy nomad belair,had three,restored two of them,had a "55"
belair post in high school,lowered,265 cu in v-8 with glass pacs, lights under the wheel wells for cruising at nite, thunderbird floor shifter and chrome wheels with baby moon hub caps,it was so cool to me then,oh yeah,I had a pearl white 57 corvette steering wheel to match the floor shifter..I was style'n!! I have had every
kind of car during my days, but none grab me more than this SSR...it seems to carry with it a special magically essence of what it was intended to be,a combination of a good old solid ride with the blend of new technology and unique
design that seperates it from everything on the road today! You take those ingridients and add a sprinkle of your personal mods, and wo-la,a very special
vehicle for sure!
