Gas prices have not truly risen..... The dollar has fallen. Just a few years ago, a euro cost $.88 and now it is $1.30. Gold went from $262 per ounce to well over $600. Gold is worth no more now than it was but it takes more dollars to buy it because dollars are worth much less. This is due to the policy of the Fed and the amount of money printed but it is also due to the fact that we have a monthly imbalance of trade of over $60 BILLION !!!!!!! We buy everything unAmerican and excuse it by saying it is now a global economy - but no other country shoots itself in the foot like we do. Koreans buy Korean stuff. Chinese buy Chinese and the Japs buy Japanese. Much of the gas price includes costs associated with new special blends some states like California require with new laws. Some of the "increase" is due to state excise and sales taxes and yet we keep blaming the A-Rabs. So much easier to blame someone else ......... but wrong! .....cool pictures, though! thnx!

World Energy Usage is way up also . . . .
In addition to the above reasons, 40 years ago we were toiling with the problem of bringing the 3rd World Countries into the modern world . . . . . we'll we've succeeded ! ! They now have cars, trucks, televisions, and a host of electric appliances, etc. and put a huge demand on the world oil supply.
Meanwhile the tree-huggers put the stops on almost every attempt to find and drill for oil in our own country with the dependance on existing oil sources stressed even more.

Well, it's just a tingyest little bit unfair. Dublai is running out of oil. Much of the money for these buidlings is coming from investments made with previous oil revenues. Dublai is one of the extremely rare examples of a resource rich third world country that successfully used revenues from exploitation of it's resources to develope a successful capitalist economy.

Dubai doesnt make its wealth on oil - its TRADE. More shopping malls and upscale stores than anywhere in the world. Oil is only 12% of the GNP. Mostly Gold and Gold jewelry pack the outstanding shoppes. Many ports and TRADE to that part of the world is the center of commerce not oil wells.

all of us, arround the world have to pay for a new dimension in gas-pricings! And I am sure there are many reasons why, many companys/goverments doing big business on all of our backs.... and now...ok, fortunately my english is not as good that i can go deeper into such a discussion.
The only thing i can say is, that we would be very happy overhere, if we had your gas pricings!
It is maybe a little "comfort" for you, if you know that we have to pay $1.45 per
liter (bout $5.80/galon), the germans, italians, frenchs etc. pay arround $1.65 per liter ($6.60 galon)!
I know it sounds a bit cynical, but maybe my post helps a bit to overlook the US-gas pricings.

Let's see how good your eyes really are.....
Could you spot where these guys were playing in that first picture?
Sure. The edge of the platform that the court is on is at the top left hand corner of the first picture. Didn't they film a Nike commcerical on that court?

nope.... it's on the right hand side, where the hotel can be seen and the platform is just below where the crane boom goes across the screen

More Dubai+ stuff
Ran across info on the tallest building in the world...being built in Dubai...
Then I found out that the second tallest building will probably also be in Dubai...
They are keeping final heights secret.....I guess being the tallest is better than being the second tallest.
Anyway this info led me to this forum about sky scrapers all over the world: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=902
