New way ATM's are trying to avoid robbery attempts. If this is true then maybe it will take some thief's off the street.
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin in reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is back wards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.
This information was recently broad casted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

Please pass this along to everyone possible.
According to Snopes this is NOT true, but something like this could be in the future....
Any time you see such an email that encourages you to pass it on to everyone you know you can bet it's listed in the Urban Legends and Myths sites. Here they are for future reference. Good to have them bookmarked or saved into your Favorites.
I think the people that pass on urban myths are either gulible or just nice people trying to pass on information to help their fellow man , or both. Urban myths are interesting in that usually the person claims they heard if from a friend who heard it from a legitimate news source or from the person it happened to. I heard one from a good friend who said his sister had found a stray dog and took it home and it ate their cat , the vet said it was no cat it was a chinese rat. I called his sister and she said it had happened to her friend not her , i called her friend and she said it was true but had happened to her sister , called her sister and she said it was true but had happened to a friend of a friend. Had to stop there but would have loved to keep going. Usually urban myths are cautionary tales but this one with atm could give someone false hope or get them hurt for not cooperating. I find that people take the time to spread this stuff without verification very telling about how that person ticks. Glad I'm on this side of their crainum.
New scam on ATM is that they cut a strip of x-ray film about 1/4" to 1/2" wide and cut and fold in half. They then put adhesive of some type on the ends and slide it into the machine. Being black you can not see it. The x-ray film has slots cut in it so that when you stick your card in it will not let the card come out. You will get your money. They set out and wait or a a post so in the event your card get stuck they come in to assist. They tell you to enter your pin again, noting your pin#. Usually the person with the card will leave to call the ATM people. Now the bandit has your card and your pin and your account $. Don't think I read this here or not.
The dynamics of the Urban myth are facinating. Are they started by people that want to see how big they can snowball into? Like the people that send a virus. The people that forward them think they are doing a public service but are they embelishing them as we all might when retelling a story, like telling someone you personally saw something when you really just heard it from a person you trust , who may have told you they saw it personally but really just heard it from someone they trust. I can usually spot an urban myth quick , but is that just because I'm closed minded or naturally sceptical. I don't forward information that I am not certain is true and I wouldn't say "This information was recently broad casted on TV "unless I personally saw or heard it, but is that because I overly fear being proved wrong or caught in a overstatement?

General Rule of Thumb.. Do not believe anything that you hear or read....or half of what you see.
Most of you at one time or another have gotten the famous email about the Swiffer Wet Jet. The chemical used is supposedly very similar to ethylene glycol (anti-freeze). A dog licks his paws and dies of liver failure. So, you are supposed to tell everyone you know about it. In fact, it got so embellished that it was even supposed to kill small children. It got so bad that the company that makes Wet Jet even have put an open letter to the public about it dispelling it as not being the truth.
My son's wife recently graduated from the UND School of Nursing. She told me that one instructor regularly teaches it in the curriculum! I told her to print out the urban legend info on it but she wouldn't. She didn't want to make waves.
But, that's how far these things go. Maybe some get even worse.

I have confronted people with the truth about their story being a urban myth , not very well received, most continue to swear by it. Just like our original poster hasn't recanted.
If you use an AMT...have a designated shooter with you.
Unfortunately, the republik of Maryland doesn't believe in the right to self-defense. With the Dems taking over both houses, there's a guaranteed no-chance-in-hell that the Feds will pass a national right-to-carry law any time in the near future.

I guess I should have done my homework on this before I posted it. I also said in my post "IF THIS IS TRUE" etc,,
Anyone ever get held up? I did... Nov 4, 1980. A day I'll never forget. It was scarier than my first marriage.
Been robbed at gun point in 1975. Checking into a motel and 2 guys came up as we were unloading the car and made us lay face down in the bed and one held guns to the back of our heads while the other ram sacked the room and took everything. Today they would have shot us in the back of the head.
I thought that my life was going to end looking down the barrel held by some piece of shhtt. And he was ugly. These guys were dopers. They did get arrested. 5 years mandatory jail for armed robbery in Phila...One got 10 years probation...the other not guilty. Phila's a good place for criminals. They wonder why the murder rate is so high. Not enough jails, pussy judges, $$$lawyers.......don't get me started.
Yes, This has been proposed but the Banking industry has yet to embrace (because its going to cost them $) or care about our safety using there ATM's IMO. I think its a good idea.

I have the Mother of a good friend (87) that lives on her puter and sends me at least 10 e-mails a day . . . she's a sweetheart . . . but half of them are these kinds of things.
I've been going to snipes and urban legends for years and I finally got pissed one night with the Cracker Barrell $50 giveaway myth (which has now morphed into a McDonald giveaway myth ), so I copied and pasted snopes explanation of it and sent it to everyone on her e-mailing list as well as her.
