Beware of warren tech

Those of you with extended warranty.. Read this.

My SSR has 60K miles and back in Aug. my odometer broke (2nd time) so I took it to the local dealer to have it repaired. I told them I have an extended warranty. When I told them the co. was warran tech. they told me I would have to pay out of my pocket and then I would need to seek reimbursement because warran tech had bad reputation about paying.
Well, the dealer got the authorization for the repairs, I paid the dealer and I faxed the invoice to warran tech as instructed. 2 months have past and no payment, so I called the warran tech today.
Guess what, they said they did not received the fax and according to the contract, if they do not receive the invoice within 60 days of the authorization, I can not ask for reimbursement I can not get reimbursed (~$678)
what the cra..... is this? No wonder they have a bad rep.

Its customery to wait few months for any reimbursement.. All warran tech has to do is "we didn't receive any fax" and they don't have to reimburse...

What recourse do I have? Help.

Many of you out there will be dependent on the extended warranty soon. Be aware of this kind of scam.

For the low cost of filing, go to your local, small claims court and sue them for the repair and the cost of filing.

Three times in the last 35 years, three different companies tried to screw me over so I went to small claims court and won every time. If you're in the right, you will have a very good chance of winning since the judges in these venues seem to have more common sense than most of the learned scholars that sit in the higher courts. Good luck!

John, Most fax machine print out a sheet showing fax was either sent or their was an error. Do you still have that sheet that shows fax was sent OK? If so, then you shouldn't have any problem with small claims court as Jax addressed.

wish I had it

Because I receive and send so many faxes, we try to save some costs on papers and ink. Unfortunately, no such copies. But, I am looking into the phone call logs for back in Sept. when I sent it.
I've never had any problems with transmission of faxes. This is ridiculous act of scamming customers.
I am contacting the dealer who sold me the extended warranty in CA.

Thanks for your concerns.. Any other ideas?

Jeff is right.... and to add..... Most fax machines will have a semi-permanent log of what was sent. There should be a printout available somewhere that verifies what you sent.

Good Luck John.

Hind sight

Any time that I fax important documentation I use the time stamp and a copy of the fax data fax log to back it up because of just what your dealing with. Its hard to debate this. I do the same with important E-MAILS. I cc one to my office at the house and save the org. at work. Don't feel bad, we all have that 20/20 hind sight. Don't see how they have a leg to stand on since they did ok for the work to be performed. If they did not rec. any documentation, have the repairer rebill you and send it to them. If all fails, SMALL CLAIMS & BETTER BUSINES BUREAU. Old SKOOL days would be out behind the wood shed. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ADVENTURE!!!!! People around here get killed over a 1$.

P.S.
Check your phone bill for the fax call. It should be on the phone record, date and time.

California has some pretty strict laws covering extended warranties. I suggest doing all the things the others have suggested and I would contact the state attorney general's office in Sacramento and ask them who is in charge of consumer oversight of automobile warranties. I think you will be surprised at the assistance you get.
Best of luck.

My $.02...Go back to the dealer that sold you the warranty, maybe they will have a little more clout dealing with the warranty company. And as always " a little sugar" gets you farther than a B.A.. On second thought send your wife or girlfriend in and tell them to cry...it always works for me!

Go with SideKicks suggestion of reporting them to the State Attorney. Start a file, press the issue. Good Luck

It is for me! We had a non GMPP warranty on an old Blazer, and it was such a PITA to deal with. Now if I feel the need for an extended warranty, it's GMPP or nothing. Might be a little more expensive, but it's worth it to me.

extended warranty

after reading about the warren tech problem, i looked up the extended warranty that i purchased when i bought my 04 from a FORD dealer in columbia, missouri. in my overexcitement of getting my ssr, i didnt pay attention to who my extended warranty was with. it seems as though i have a extended warranty on my GM SSR with the FORD motor company.

i called the guy who sold it to me and asked him if it meant that i have to take my ssr in to a FORD dealer for warranty work and he said "yes" after i told him it was B/S he said they would just end up taking it to a GM dealer and they would give me something to drive until it got fixed. hopefully i wont have to test this B/S out. my fault. i should have kept my eye on the ball.

Don't believe him
I have the Ford warranty and I have taken my SSR to the Chevy dealer to get it fixed and Ford paid the Chevy dealer the same day...(A couple of months ago my dealer changed their policy and for any extended warranty, the costumer must pay the dealer and get reimbursed from the warranty company on their own. BUT since I've been a long time customer, my service writer is continuing to bill and accept payment from the warranty company directly).
The only issue I have had with the Ford warranty is that sometimes they will allow only an hour for a job that the Chevy Dealer is charging an hour and a half for. Other than that, they have covered everything that has broke.
As for a rental car, I don't know how that would work, because I've never requested one.

So don't worry, be happy.

Warranty

My dealer wants to sell me an extended for 1800 that is a gmpp but if I don't use it I get my $$ back at the end of the 3 yr contract. I guess if it is the real deal it will be worth every penny. I think I will read the fine print before handing over the check. It is supposed to cover everything the origonal did except for door seals and such.

Mine also had the $$ back option, but I have gotten more in warranty repairs than I paid.....it was definitely a win-win situation for me
