I have an idea with this electric car......the battery powered motor is a good thing....but here is my idea of a better vehicle
the Volt has a electric motor that goes 40 to 50 mph for about 60 - 70 miles
To me that is a good thing for crusing the street,....
but it is has to have a second engine to recharge and for better performance...
Why not put the LS2 in, as the motor to recharge and take over for highway travel...and for street racing.....
My SSR: Slingshot Yellow VIN 20778 Born 05 May 2005 (05/05/05)

Just wondering
Would that not be just another (only a little faster) HYBRID, Carl?

I was wondering ,,,,can you change the gears in this Volt, or do a program tune???
The Volt has a small ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) which creates electricity when the batteries are low. It give the Volt a range of 300 miles.
The weight of the batteries AND an LS2 engine would be quite heavy.
Since the "engine" is electric, there are NO gears.

From my house to Las Vegas at 300 mile range that would put me between Barstow and Mountain Pass in the middle of the desert on the side of the road....

Sure hope Rico buys a VOLT as GM would love to hear him bitch about only getting 298.5 miles on a charge
I thought that they were going to have a limited amout for sale by Sept. of this year.
Gm is going to celebrate their 100 years of being in Business on Sept. 16, 2008.
I hope this car is as I saw it and not made to look like a Chevy Cobalt.

I just hope the Volt doesn't end up like the EV1 did. That was a sad story, GM should have left them out in public hands instead of crushing them. I saw them in Sacramento when they were first produced and they made sense even then.

Well, you just gotta gas up to keep going. Until the battery recharges, the gas engine will give you the juice to keep going.
It's not a hybrid like the Pious (prius), but a gas-electric. The engine strictly drives a generator to recharge the battery and power the vehicle - as WOW said, it's an electric motor moving the car. So, your "gas pedal" won't be revving the engine. When it fires up, it'll be running at a constant RPM. That's actually more efficient too.
I think GM will have this ready much sooner than the skeptics believe. The drive mechanics have already been worked out in 3 generations of their fuel cell vehicles (HydroGen 1/2/3). The 3rd gen morphed into a real-world evaluation project using fuel cell equipped Equinoxes. I saw one a few weeks ago. The only real difference between a fuel cell vehicle and the Volt is that battery and gas engine w/generator.

I know just kidding but I like the fact that I don't have to stop anywhere now to get to Vegas, I think that's why Detroit starting making mileage cars back when so you would have range...

None of these cars are worth it. Buy the time you loose trade in value, purchase price of vehicle (that + could be 5 to 10k over MSRP), you would have to drive the new vehicle 7 to 10 years to break even...OH Wait...don't know if the batteries with last that long....$$$$$$$...Can you say Money Pit...

Bigger gas tanks means more range too. I wouldn't see myself using it for long distance travel either.

You mean that you can not modify this vehicle to go faster or farther????
What has happened to us??????? Give me a model T and send me to the grave........Is there another Henry Ford or Thomas Edison out there some where????
Give this vehicle to Al Gore..and see if he likes it...
It must have been those two cold hot dogs I ate......healthy food ...two dogs cold, no bread ,no chips ,two donuts(powdered) left over from this morning

Gee I feel great.......
I think you'd better check your pulse. You may find that it is time to shut your eyes and roll over.
Fantastic. Good readings. I went from 331 to 303.5 as of this morning. Keep up the good work. If you are still eating hot dogs, it must be the portions that is causing you to lose weight. Blood pressure is low though, averaging 99/61. Got it up to 140/77 this evening by cutting some meds in half and after lugging groceries into the house. How about that???

The weight lost is due to my wife........more sexless food
