Thumbs up classic old motel we found in NorCal

we drove by this beauty in Dorris, had to turn around so I could get these pictures. Too cool, a reminder of the past days of road trips. And dig that; they're still open!

Neat - where is Dorris?

Next time you're in "southern Canada", you might try one of these.

Route 66 had many of these old relics. I still like finding the old ones.

When we were on our route 66 trip, we tried to stay there, the woman there was extremely rude and ignorant to Tracie, so we told her to "stuff it" and went back to a very interesting western themed motel ... with Gold and blue bedding ... it was very ... ummm East India looking .. and so was the owner !! LOL it was very clean and quite, BUT we did stay in the Wigwams in San Bernardino .... WAY BETTER, the parking lot was all paved and they have a pool ... highly recommend them, we'll stay there again !!

Dorris is on Hwy 97, a stones throw from the OR border. Great highway, lots of volcanic damage in that whole area.

Rte 66 - when we stayed w/ Autodan and Phyllis we ate at a historic cafe in Victorville; Emma Jean's Holland Burger. Yes, Wayne had the Brian Burger. Dan and I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy.
Those guys on the roof were cleaning it off

Stayed in one like that on 17 Mile Drive in Carmel when I was a kid. Did not appreciate it then as it did not have a pool. Don't know it if it is still around or not since I have not been back there in a while.

We had a sweet little motor motel like that in town for years called the "Coronado", the rustic wood paneled rooms and all tile baths were beautiful, and every room had it's own garage attached. I thought hard about buying it about 15 years ago, but the city would have required some major revisions to bring it all to current code and were not willing to budge to save the historic flavor of the property. I thought it would make a great little stop over point for folks traveling out west but alas, it was purchased by a church next door to it ,and torn down for additional parking. All that remains is a 5 foot neon and steel cactus at the driveway that was a local landmark for years. I have tried to buy and preserve/restore that but the pastor won't sell it

I recall staying in one like the one with attached garrages in the 1980's on the north side of Redding California on the old highway 299/273

It was on the East side of the highway.

Who would have thought we could turn a thread about old motels into a musical interlude?

What a small world... when you mentioned that name, I smiled as the couple is big cycle peeps and have a red/black and yellow/black Honda Aero bikes and love to ride. They frequent the Aero forum I belong to and seem really nice. They are transplants from Michigan I think and just pursued a dream and they bought the Blue Swallow. A group us want to go out and visit and stay for few days.

On their website, they have a pic of them standing in front of their bikes.

yes that is right, they said they have friends they meet up with in the winter from Calgary, so they also get up this way on the bikes too.
