Closing.......

After 61 years of operation, my Dealer has decided o call it quits. Seems GMAC put the squeez on him so much, that he no longer wants the headaches. So as of May 15, Fitzpatrick Chevrolet will close its doors. I've been with them for 5 years, so I don't know where I will go. I'm sure I'll find something. Just hate to see it happen to another good dealership.

Sorry to hear that, good dealerships are sometimes hard to find. I hope you land a new and even better position soon.

Mike, sorry to hear this for you. To many jobs gone these days, it makes me fear who is next.

But I notice your "semper fi" signature, so that tells me you have that inner strength instilled in you. You will be just fine my marine brother.

Unhappy A loss of dealerships will continue in these recessionary times

I wish you good luck in the future Mike! I have faith that you will find work very soon.

There will probably be many other dealerships that will be driven to closure in the not to distant future because of the continuing sales slump.

Federal marshalls, on behalf of GMAC, seized a large number of new vehicles this past weekend at Clyde Chevrolet/Buick dealership in Rockville, CT. It's hard to blame GMAC given Clyde owed them $2.1m and hadn't made a payment in months according to the local newspaper.

Mike,

I wish you well. I can relate to your problem;my place,Laffin Chevrolet in NJ,closed after almost 80 years in business. I was there ~ 4 years.

I'm sure you will rebound with a better opportunity. Hang in there!!

I was hoping things were turning around for more of the dealers. The owner of the GM/Buick dealership that services most of my 'fleet' told me on Friday that his business is improving. But he said last December and January business was "dead."

Gmac........

It wasn't the dealer who decided it just wasn't worth it. GMAC came down and told him they wanted him to post a $1 million bond, and put up the clear dealership property and all of his personal property for collateral. On January 1st, he was forced to write a check for a couple of hundered thousand for any inventory over 90 days old. he felt it was too much. He didn't want to give up for the sake of his 55+ employees, (used to be 155+) but he didn't have any choice. His Grandfather started with Chevrolet in 1917, and his Grandfather and Father opened a dealership in 1947. His father came to work right up until he was 89 years old, Past away in December. Its a shame the way they treat their loyal dealer group.

Gina; Yes, I am a Marine, went to boot camp 40 years ago last December. I WILL NOT LET THIS GET ME DOWN. Semper Fidalis.

Dealers....

From what I was told the other day by a GM Manager, 1400 Chevrolet dealerships will close within the next 6-12 months. It just isn't right.
