Plenty of former and current Corvette types in here so I thought I would ask the experts.
Need opinions on buying a Z06.
2001 with 61K miles for 24K but negotiable.

24k?, if the interior is mint, wheels are clean, brakes good and body and engine are immaculate. I think cash talks a little here, the market is soft.

Have it checked out. Better safe than sorry. The dealer I just bought my 08 Corvette Convertible had an 01 Z06 with 31000miles for $23000. It stayed on the lot for a long time.

The Z06 market seemed to go a little soft when the C6 corvette came out with essentially tje same performance, however, that being said, I and many others really like the unique notchback roof of the C5 Z06 better than the fastback design. so it's a good time to take advantage of the market and look around for a deal. I think the notchback will demand a premium in the future.

I would look at completed listings on Ebay for a clue to where the vette stands on value.

I haven't priced them in a while, but I own a 2002 Z06 and I can tell you it's a blast to drive! I have test-driven a 2008 435hp 6-speed, and even though the stats stack up it feels entirely different than my Z06 - it's a Cadillac, the Z06 is a race car!

If I were looking at a Honda Civic with 61,000 miles, I'd say great. But a Z-06 Corvette, I dont think so. How many times over that 61,000 miles did he mash the gas?

Actually, with the Civic, you pretty much have to mash the gas all the time to keep up with the world. They probably run around 3500 rpm on the freeway. The power comes so easy in the vette, it cruses at 65 at what, maybe about 1400. It probably is driven at wot much less than a little motor.

Actually you are wrong about the Honda. Coming from the proud owner of a new 08 Corvette, 64 Corvette, 04 SSR and Honda Insight The Honda cruises down the freeway at about 1500 rpm due to the gearing. I have friends with well over 300,000 on theirs with no rebuilds I have to set the record straight from experience

Not trying to steer you in a direction but the '01 Z-06 is 385hp wich reflects in the resale value.The '02 has 405hp and the resale is in the 30k's yours is priced where it should be and if there nego then you will be in an equitable place.With that said the "Z-06" IS ALL RACE CAR. If you have ever owned a vette and thought it had plenty of power then you will be surprised because the Z feels like the 60's big block cars and you will love it.Now go become part of the club, just think a few bolt ons and your makeing 500hp in a car that weighs 3100lbs.
Another thing that make the Z-06 feel more powerful than the new 435hp Vette is the close ratio 6 spd it will flat out lay you back in the seat.Oh yeah when your nego just figure that all Vettes have had the hammer put down, that way you can get it for less or at least get them to throw in a warrenty.

My point about the Honda was your not going to in most cases, see someone trying to lay 100ft of rubber in a civic. A Z-06 Corvette........

Great point, Jeff

However, I believe the Honda Insight is an exception to the rule Flashback is referencing on this one.

There's no disputing Hondas are great vehicles but all, correction, most all four cylinder engines tend to cruise at significantly higher RPMs than do larger V-8's.

First of all I am not picking on Hondas. They are great cars. Second, the example that was presented was a Civic not an Insight. And lastly, I was just trying to make the point that just because it is a Z06 doesn't mean that it was abused and that the Civic isn't likely to be. I am constantly observing those and similar small engine cars being accelerated at w.o.t all the time while I observe Corvettes just taking it easy most of the time. They don't have to constantly prove to the world that they are fast. You can't just assume that the Z06 was abused because it is a Z06.

I have been keeping an eye on the prices for a Z06 - I have a nephew that wants to buy one as soon as he returns from Iraq.
Anyway - CarMax has a 2001 with 7K miles - asking $27,988. Low miles! Its on their website. Just my .02 cents.
