In the Fifties and Sixties, Drive in Movie Theaters dotted the outskirts of most cities. Then in the Seventies, as cites began to expand and grow, the Drive Ins succumbed to shopping centers and malls. Today there are only Four Drive in Theaters remaining in North Carolina.
On Saturday Night, September 25, 2010 at the Sunset Drive in Theater on NC Hwy 74 just west of Shelby, North Carolina, the Fifties and Sixties are coming back. Classic, Antique, Vintage, Custom Cars and Trucks will convene once again to the Drive In Movie Theater.
Cars from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee are expected to drive on over to Shelby, as the Drive In host’s a Classic Car Night at the Movies. The cost is only $8.00 per car, the cost of the movie. Movies goers’ will need to bring an FM Radio to listen to the movies as the old speakers are gone.
The Cruise In begins at 7 PM and the socializing begins, but at 8:45 it will be Movie Time. All Classic, Antique, Custom Cars, and Trucks are invited, including Car Clubs.
The Drive in can accommodate over 400 cars

That sounds like a fun evening! Wish we could be there for it.
I don't know if there are any drive-in theaters left in Illinois... maybe one near Springfield, IL?

Sorry that you cannot make it. I am sure we will have a good time. There are hot rods attending from as far as Virginia. Of course we will be outnumber by the cars of the 60s and 70s.
