Early AM phone call

Although I was awake I hadn't crawled out of bed yet. (6:23 AM)

The wife heard the phone ring, but couldn't get to it before it went to the answering maching.

A short time later (7:00 AM) I hear the door bell ringing. When I get to the door, it's Wildbill.

He was in the SSR and said he had a big problem. He said when he started the SSR today the top wouldn't go down, no windows , power locks, the radio didn't work and the gauges were all funky. And to top it off he and the Mrs were suppose to have left early this morning for Myrtle Beach.

He also said he had seen a mouse in the truck that scurried up under the dash.

First things first we checked the fuses. AOK.

Next I pulled the center control panel to peek under it. Sure enough their was a nice mouse hotel in there.

Removed the shifter, windsuppressr, entire center counsole. Found that the mouse had gotten hungry and Bill didn't leave anything for him to eat. The little fella must have been starving so he ate the coating off three wires in the harness, causing them to short and sends mixed signals to the computer.

After a quick repair of the wires and some testing of all the effected circuits, everything was back in good working order.

Reintalled everything and tested once again. Still A.O.K.

Next I removed the silver face trim and the screws for the upper dash panel. Pulled it loose and the top dash pad enough to shine a light inside. Luckily there were no signs of Mice in the dash area. Reinstallled everything and had bill give it a run through. Door locks, t/c, windows, roof, gauges, heater controls, etc.

Bill was a happy camper, everything was working like it should.

Now (8:35 AM) he and the wife are on their way in the SSR to Myrtle Beach with their golf clubs, Via a stop over in Maggie Valley.

Enjoy the trip and good luck in the veterans golf trounament.

Fuzzy, that was great work you did for Wildbill and so early in the morning. No one else could have done it for him at that time and you saved their weekend for them. What a guy! I's sure that they really appreciate it. You did your good deed.

I'm curious, does Bill know how the little b##&)*d's got in there in the first place? Was a window left down, did they come in thru the transmission shifter opening?

Fuzzy, you are a top notch member of the fanatic family. It seems like every day I am amazed by the generosity of the people on this forum and their willingness to help other members with anything from SSR problems to finding a house, or a way to the hospital. The group of people on this forum is unbelievable!

Thanks for all the compliments for helping a fellow fanatic.

When Bill first showed up, and he informed me of the problem, He mentioned that his wife had asked him if he was going to take it too his local Mechanic? Which according to Bill may have take a few days, and he wanted to take the SSR on the trip.

Bill told his wife, "No. There's only one person around here that has had one of these apart this far and will know what to do to fix it. I'm takin it to FUZZY."

Bill said his wife agreed.

I'm always glad to help others out.
