FEELING GOOD After heart surgery

Life is good. I'm amazed at what I can do. Pain is totally gone (never was terrible)and the walking for rehab has started. I'm up to a mile a day, 1/2 at a time. The shortness of breath during mild exercise is gone, better than before surgery. All this in 2 weeks.

Sure glad to hear that you are getting better day by day, soon it will all be behind you and you will be good as new. Looks like I'm the only one here at
the Flagstaff rally with sidepipes. Sure sorry that you couldn't make it, but things happen. Good Luck on your recovery.

I've made this mistake before, the mind is willing but the body regrets it.

That would be appropriate after all the cows you've put in your tummy over the years.

3 weeks after surgery

Just had the first post surgey checkup. Dr. was impressed with my progress. She said I'm at least 1 month ahead of schedule due to no other issues such as diabetes, heart damage, or badly overweight.(I say badly cause I'm not skinny)

Appetite is back and I am HUNGRY all the time but still am eating less than before.

Exercise: I walk a 1/2 mile twice daily without stopping but am still restricted from any pulling or pushing due to the healing breast bone. No more than 10lbs of lifting.

It has been an amazing process. There were so many things that could have gone wrong.

They: knock you out, split the breast bone, stop the heart, collapse the lungs, do 5 by-passes, replace a heart valve, replace a major artery, and then bring you back to life.

Any one of these hidden conditions was a killer and they were all fixed in a 7 hour period.

My new birthday is August 23rd when my heart was restarted.

Life is good!!

I'm so glad you're doing well.

You looked great when I saw you on Saturday. I was very impressed with the level of recovery you've had with such a sort time after surgery.

Congrats!

PatBob has been wonderful

The night before surgery we were holding each other when I realized that my chest was wet from Pat's tears. We were very scared at that time.
She is a real trooper and I have been nursed like crazy. Having the support of family has made me so proud.
The kids have come over and helped all around the house and yard. They dont do that at their own house.
I am so blessed

1 month down 2 months to go

It's been 1 month today since surgery. The incisions on the lower legs are 90% healed (that's where they got the veins for the 5 by-passes) The 12" incision on the chest is fully healed.
In 2 more months the chest bone will be fully healed and I can resume full activity. I'm limited to no more than 10 pounds lifting and the Doc says I'm not to use any pushing or pulling motions such as vacuuming. Oh damn I really wanted to do that.

Progress is ahead of schedule. Feeling better every day and going "Stir Crazy"
