General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner's compensation rose 18% in 2007 to $6.6 million, and the company said Friday it was raising the salaries of Wagoner and other top executives this year.
These Guys should ALL BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are not intune with the market and do not have proper competative vehicles in the lineup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just my humble opinion!
Grimmye... Hummm... I would have to disagree. GM seems to have a good line-up of winners. The HHR, the new Malibu, the Soltice, and the Saturn line-up. The new G8's look nice... and the new Silverado seems to be a nice truck. Plus, looking down the road, the Volt is awesome, the new Camaro looks cool... So I think the line-up is good.
Where I think they are loosing is overall poor reputation for quality. GM needs to fix this, and stop "cheaping out" on parts quality. Look at our SSR's.... $50K trucks and the inside is plastic.
The other thing - which I think is a more industry problem - is they need to figure out how they keep the manufacturing here in the US without driving the costs sky-high. I think people want to buy US made product, but we also don't want to pay through the nose... this comes back to your original point about CEO compensation. Obviously, the increase comes from somewhere. :-)
I've always liked the Steve Jobs approach. His salary is $1 a year. He makes millions from Apple, but it's all stock. His performance as CEO directly affects his bottom line. Every CEO should get paid like this. If the shareholders suffer... so does the CEO.

The CEO of the company I work for makes $2,050,000.00
a month yes a month. That is just plain stupid. No one is worth that much money not even me Really where do they get off paying people like that. I'm done I feel better now.

I am sure it has been said before somewhere, but If you want to have a say (though it will be a small one) buy a share of stock and go to the share holder meeting. Believe it or not, the group is often relatively small and they do listen to well founded arguements. They may come back with a pat and meaningless answer but if the arguement is really justified you can bet it gets some talk behind the scenes.

I love my SSR. Aside from that. It's not the plastic that kills me. It's the lack of parts. The quality of the parts. The service writer and tech that couldn't care less about customer concerns (my experience from Bergey Chevrolet in Colmar). This is my first & last GM. Sorry if I'm off subject here.

I have had all GMC since 1973 and have not had any problems with dealer, service, parts, stc. Now I have a Chevy and the GMC dealer will not touch it because the chevy dealer is down the street. I have not had any satisfaction from the Chevy dealer. I guess I am saying "Is it GM or just Chevrolet that is the problem?"

Sadly, Grimmye . . . this ridiculous scenario is being repeated in this country entirely too often.
I may not agree completely with your comment . . .

but I doubt seriously if Wagoner, or any of the Top Dogs, had much to do with the introduction of the current successful vehicles.
I am the CEO of my company....My salery or paycheck is based on the amount of sales, and work that I do......I work hard for the money,,in the old days I sometime worked 15 to 18 hours a day to keep the company running ....I beleve they should make all the money they can ,while they can.....
If there were no rich people...who would we work for ....the government??????

Both...GM is Chevy...Chevy is GM. That's the way I perceive it. My wife was talking about an HHR today. I'm not interested. Will be a PT Cruiser or Jeep Compass. I'm not bashing GM at all. Just not buying their products. That's my customer service survey.

I agree become a stock holder and attend the meeting and your voice is better heard - otherwise you voice and opinion is failing on deaf ears.
My SSR: Not an SSR owner, just make cool parts for them!

I thought the customer service of our "five star" Dodge- Jeep dealership was pathetic with known problems not taken care of. Once it was out of warrenty they knew exactly what was wrong and what it was going to cost to fix. And talk about cheap plastic interiors! Chryslers-Dodge-Jeep=NEVER AGAIN

I might become a holder next year...the last of my Roth IRA contribution for this year is now going toward my money market fund. GM was a good buy about a month ago and I just missed it...here's hopping they take a nose dive between now and then...
