GPS Voices & Commands
Ok since we were talking about GPS's on another thread it reminded me of a conversation with hubby, Lonnie and myself about the GPS voices and commands and the confusion it can sometimes cause
Steve and I had a few experiences in MV and on the way home that had us bustin a gutt
We were in a parking lot at a grocery store when it did this. The female voice on the GPS shouted TURN SHARPLY TURN SHARPLY Steve and I looked at each other and we both said at the same time.....WHAT THE HELL
Had we turned sharply we would have been parked for good into 5 other cars parked in the lot
At another time we missed an exit and the female voice came on and said "Turn Around Now"
I don't know about you but after hearing recalculating 20 times Steve and I have found ourselves both giving it the middle finger......Are we loosing it or what

I can relate to that as I tried fooling the GPS on getting me home from work.
Did you know that the newer GPS that coming out now tells you the street name. Looking forward to hearing how some streets are pronounced.
I have the answer on mine..... no voice prompts. It's supposed to do it, but for some reason, it's utterly silent. I kinda prefer it that way. Besides, if you have the top down, I couldn't hear it anyway.
That’s funny down in MV it should have said “kindly turn sharply y’all”
And if you miss a turn it says “Y’all come back now!”
In a parking lot....the driver is screwed. I like my Garmin 350. I want to meet the chick talking to me. I just bought a Garmin 360 for my Mustang. These are better than factory units.

While on our trip to MV I encountered two glitches in my Delorme system.
First was just after a fuel stop. The GPS was tracking me down I-40 which was the correct way to go, but was tlling me to make a u-turn and go down a country road that wouldn't get me there. After a short detour, some cursing, and resetting the GPS, it then told me to continue on I-40.
Then when we were just about there I noticed it wanted me to continue going staight (although it was a very curvy road). If I would have done this the SSR would have had to have wings and a propeller .
I think the is trying get a few of us.
Thank goodness I go to church
ONCE IN A WHILE

We had a few more issues on the way home, the most bizarre is we were turning into the parking lot of a plantation outside Charleston and she started screaming "MAKE A U-TURN NOW!!" over and over again - we had to turn her off! I've noticed she also says "Doctor" instead of "Drive" a lot when giving directions. like "turn left on Adamo Doctor". We have the Garmin Nuvi 350 (at least till I toss her out the window when Lonnie's not looking! ).

I guess that's kind of odd. I have the Garmin Ique3600. It will tell me to do U-turns, but doesn't say "now" and the voice always remains the same, never screams. Mine doesn't pronounce street names, but it does seem like someone at Garmin was asleep at the wheel when it came time for testing the unit if it's saying doctor instead of drive.
Have you checked for any updated software? I updated mine once when the 'voice' would stop talking once in a while. The update fixed that.

In the interest of accuracy the software was caught in a "loop" and kept repeating the voice command at max volume in rapid succession, resulting in what I percieved as "screaming" - my bad. I'll have to check for updates, so far all we've downloaded was a flaming truck.

the old infinite loop......... . I did have to reset my Ique3600 once on the trip because the map was failing to draw.....when I hit too many keys too fast and then end up on the map, it can cause this problem...

So my constant poking and pushing of buttons might be causing our little Nuvi to act like she's on crack? I feel bad now...

Could be....I found if it is lagging behind a little to stop pushing buttons till it catches up. It seems to store and execute every command, so the more you push the further behind it gets.

I guess that's what I need to do with mine. I have the iQue too. However, as I posted above, I don't particularly care that it's not speaking to me. Have it give me directions is different from it telling me where to go.
