Guessing Game

Thanks Doug for keeping the guessing game going w/ a prize. Now it's Art's turn, to ask the question and provide the next prize and Doug gets to be the Arbitrator. Any thread, any topic, any question he likes.

It appears that MauiMike started something, and then I inadvertently continued his guessing game. I agree with Mike, let's keep this thing going, it will be fun.

It's Art's turn for some kind of trivia question, riddle, whatever with some kind of a small prize for the winner. Art, if you're up for it, PM me the answer(s) when you want, keeping in mind most of us don't know what "string theory" is.....

Am I the only one here that wishes Art would quit "lurking" and turn the D%$n thing off, so we can see when he's on line?

The information is readily available if you know where to look..

The prize will be a certain hood prop rod. This prop rod will have a Silver stripe on it representing my SSR. The next person to get it should then add a stripe for the color of their SSR and so on. Once we cover it with SSR colors I can disclose the future plans for it...

My question:
The Space Shuttle has a number of rocket engines. There are the 3 main engines which are part of the Main Propulsion System (MPS) and 38 much smaller rocket engines and 2 medium engines that are part of the Orbital Maneuvering System and Reaction Control System (OMS & RCS).
What I want an answer to is this:
What rocket propellants are used in the OMS & RCS and what rocket propellants are used in the MPS?

Doug has the answers and will be the ref.

Both types burn a combination of monomethyl hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide liquid fuel. Helium and oxidizer in the main engines.

Sure Art, I'll just jump on my CANADARM and swing out and have a look-see at those pesky rocket engines

Doc,
I think you are close but you missed by one proton and one electron.
I think the correct answer is:

OMS & RCS = monomethylhydrazine as fuel and nitrogen tetroxide as oxidizer

MPS = Liquid hydrogen and Liquid Oxygen

I think Bluestreak has a winner as soon as it's verified by Doug.. Looks like I need to put that silver stripe on the rod so I can part with it Sunday.

It was fun, I had to pull out my Space Shuttle Operating Manual. Just finding that was fun.
