My SSR: BUFFY = Big Ugly Fat Friendly Yankee - 2004 Vin# 8120
It Has To Be Said.......
I must admit, I am a little disappointed that I am even typing up this thread.
Marc NY and I have tried to keep this forum a place where you will WANT to come whenever you have a free moment to discuss the love of our lives, the SSR. Here you can learn ways to improve our “babies”, such as performance, aesthetics, tips and tricks and even better ways to make it sparkle.
What we didn’t want it to become is a place to complain. Oh, there are plenty of things that may go wrong with our SSR’s, but our goal was to have a place where you could come to see if anyone else had the same problem, see if anyone corrected that problem which would hopefully help you (or your service department) to diagnose your similar problem. And I believe we have accomplished this.
Also, we get to see how GM dealers across the country (world) are handling the inherent issues with the SSR, and again hopefully flush out the bad ones and praise the good ones.
And yes, sometimes even GM needs a little reality check from us to let them know that they have 20,000 + customers out there who want to keep their SSR’s running for a long time (think parts!)
OK, so that was our goal.
But, t seems like lately, we are having more and more arguments, heated discussions, company and member-bashing than I have ever seen before. And now, add some tasteless and sometimes vulgar pictures to the problem and we have a recipe for disaster!
Here is what we need from you. A place where your 9 year old daughter or 90 year grandmother can come to read about the “SSR Experience”, including get togethers, weekend trips and such. Does that mean we can’t voice our opinions about a deal or dealer gone bad? Or about a problem that we can’t get GM to fix? Or a dispute on aftermarket parts or vendors? No, it doesn’t mean that. Just present your facts so we all can be on the lookout for the same problems too. State the problem, including what would make you happy if necessary and then let us know what the final outcome was. All the other postings in between those two points, is considered harping on a problem and after a while, you will lose the sympathy of this crowd.
The same goes for member-bashing. If you feel a member has treated you less that fair, state your case, then let us out of it. Please go resolve your problems with that member without our involvement. We can’t help you.
OK, as for offensive words, pictures or avatars. For those of you who know me will also know that not much offends me, but we have had some pretty raunchy stuff slip through in the past few days. Two words to describe this – NOT TOLERATED. No further discussion needed on this.
I don’t want this to only be a “love fest” for SSR’s, but I also don’t want it to become a site that you’ll start staying away from to avoid conflicts.
All comments are welcomed.

This point is taken. I wonder if we should have somethng on the sign up page that we have to check before we can become members on the SSR Fanatic page?
At anyrate.. am now curbing my pictures and opposing member bashing.

Thank You Buffy and Marc...
I had stopped referring folks here due to the negative overtones that seemed to permeate a large number of threads. (I really hope that Janet decides to find time to come back and discuss her modified SSR.)
I used to brag that the SSRfanatics had become my extended family - but WITHOUT any of the usual 'bickering' that happens at the holidays.
Civility really does need to be the main rule here!
CIVILITY
–noun, plural -ties.
1. courtesy; politeness.
2. a polite action or expression: an exchange of civilities.
3. Archaic. civilization; culture; good breeding.

I stand corrected and humbled.
Thanks Buffy for your superlative comments and Mike for some sincere thoughts too. We all want our site to be a safe and fun place for everyone to come visit.
Thank you for your PMs, I just received a PM telling me that a member wants to start over again and try to get along better in the future.

Now that you've stated the rules....what are the penalties?
Warnings? 1 day suspensions? 1 week suspensions? Having you paint blue things under our trucks (I guess you'll have to remove those pictures )?
We have a very strong "Character Education" program in our school where I teach and this months character trait is, RESPONSIBILITY. I think that pretty much says it all. Be accountable for your actions or behavior. Thanks for setting us straight Buffy!

An SSR Fanatic Member and Proud of it
At any given time we have 50 to 70% of guest signed on. Sometimes this number is higher then the members that are logged on. I sometimes wonder what they think?
Recently I have received e-mails to my home address in regards to the down side the forum has taken lately. I was appalled over the last few months with the negative comments, bashing, and rudeness on many of the posts. There were a few times when members tried to turn the post around …..with no prevail.
And doesn’t I’m Sorry mean anything anymore along with move-on!
I love this site and the people on it (no matter who you are and what your comments have been) I have always tried in life to find the “good” in people……for me it’s more then just an internet site….It’s friends from all over the World!!!! Can’t get better then that!!!!!
I take a great deal of pride in referring this Internet site to other SSR owners I have met…..and would like to consider doing so.
On my honor…………I will do my best in maintaining a healthy enjoyable forum to visit!
Thanks Buffy and Marc for the eye-opener as I have been guilty of a few as well!
For those of us who were part of this a long time ago, I went and looked it up........ Please accept my apology if this seems trite or naive, but it sure says a lot for the core values I look for.
Mike
Scout Oath (or Promise)
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law TRUSTWORTHY
A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him. LOYAL
A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation. HELPFUL
A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward. FRIENDLY
A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own. COURTEOUS
A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together. KIND
A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason. OBEDIENT
A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them. CHEERFUL
A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy. THRIFTY
A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property. BRAVE
A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him. CLEAN
A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals. He helps keep his home and community clean. REVERENT
A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
Scout Motto - Be Prepared
Scout Slogan - Do a Good Turn Daily
As both the wife and mother of Eagle scouts, I think this is a good reminder to all of us. I apologize if I have ever offended anyone on the forum and will try to do better in the future. I remember when I was a new member and couldn't wait to read all the posts, but now it's sure not as much fun. I want to know about any problems and how to correct them, but the griping and whining has gotten a little out of hand. I am not offended by the pictures and avatars, but sure wouldn't want my grandaughters to see them. Thanks, Buffy

Buffy,
One of the main reasons I come here more than my other favorite site, is because just the things you were referring to has literally destroyed IMHO the best cruise site I know of, Cruisecritic.com with 160,000 members (has even forced some members to form their own cruise website ! ! )
The bickering and bashing over standard lightning rods (smoking, kids on a cruise, jeans in the dining room, bringing booze on board, etc.) petty complaints and trolls from competing cruiselines just takes all the fun out of it.
Machell (wildcat66) would be interested to know a select few of their members have 25,000 posts ! ! (a true clique)
Something needed to be said and Im glad it was! This is why Im sure Troy has you and Marc as Moderators (No one could do it better than you guys!) OK enough sucking up.
I think we sometimes forget not too many people on this site are professional writers. It is very easy to misconstrue when someone is writing if their seriously upset or just trying to be a smart a$$ when you have so many different personalities all commenting on different things its easy to take something the wrong way and then someone comes back and maybe very innocently says something that someone else takes offence to and then it escalates.
I can honestly say there is no one on this site I dislike there are some people who's personalty may clash with mine but I know if we met in person we would probably get along great.
So I agree thanks Buffy for reminding us that were all SSR FANATICS thats why were here!
