Hoss Left The Stable
Unfortunately one of my family has departed. My beautiful little Cobra is off to live high in the Rockies.
Jack, a very young 72 year old, says he only gets about 2-3 months of the year where he will be able to drive him, but at least it sounds like the mileage will be kept down. I can tell he is going to love and take good care of him. He bought it sight unseen but was overjoyed with what he saw. He had a somewhat Cobra style permagrin when I first fired him up.
Hoss was a ton of fun and I hated seeing him taken away. I loved looking at his beautiful motor!
I had to console myself by taking Kate for a run in the sun!

1996. First year of the 4.6L DOHC. It was set up for road track racing, lowered, suspension rebuild, rear seat removed for roll bar, 5 pt harnesses, carbon fiber driveshaft etc. Lots of money spent on him for sure. Very quick and rode hard but like glue on the corners.

XSELER8 says good luck to the new owner....that is a beautiful Cobra.
I did not know what a Cobra was when I bought the GT. I would have gone for a Cobra instead. Oh well...maybe a Shelby someday.

Maybe another one day in the future. When I built my '70 Vette another strong consideration was to do a '66 Mustang fastback. I don't know if a '66 Shelby Mustang could have been attainable but certainly the ultimate Mustang of the era.
I would still like to do one some day.

$, I love the view from your place!!
Here's my 67 Shelby story, greatly condensed for time and space. After high school I went to work for a small company with three owners - all former hot rodders that had matured into Caddy Eldo owners?! I had a 65 Mustang that I was trying to soup up, and every day after work I'd be out wrenching on it in the parking lot. The owners would hang out a little with me and offer guidance and general harassment. I could also sense the "fire" starting to smolder again. One day at lunchtime two of them showed up with brand new 69 Javelin and AMX SSTs with 390s and 4 speeds and the competition between them started. The third owner found Bunky Knudson's 67 Shelby GT500 sitting over at DST, made an offer, and drove it home. With the basically stock 428 he couldn't beat the Ramblers and that really pi$$ed him off! One day we all happened to be at the dragstrip and Rollie, the Shelby owner, asked if I wanted to drive it. When I finally could speak, I mumbled "sure Rol". Well, I managed to beat the dreaded AMX, and from that day forward the Shelby was basically mine. Rollie just never wanted to see the AMX beat the Shelby again. It turned into a money spending extravaganza that went on for a couple years. The Shelby ended up with a 427 side oiler block combined with the 428 crank which gave a 454 cu. in. combination. We found some high flowing Nascar tunnel port heads, with a matching intake manifold. All the time I was street racing that car, for large amounts of money, and it was gaining a reputation in the Detroit area. When I'd come home with it, late at night, I'd sometimes leave it parked in the street instead of pulling up the drive between the houses because of how loud it was. One morning after a night of street racing, my young wife woke me up and asked if I had brought the Shelby home last night? I said, quite firmly, Don't ever joke about that!! I quickly realized she wasn't and it was gone! Cops found it later that day with a blown engine, but otherwise intact and in good condition. It was a tough call I had to make that morning to Rollie, but to his credit he took it well and said get it back together ASAP. So, rebuilt the engine and even juiced it up a little more. I vowed to never leave it out again and usually just left inside at work. One night I was wrenching on my car, at work late, and couldn't get it finished. It was about 2 AM and I had to be back at 8 so I thought I'd just take the Shelby this once. When I got home my other car was in the drive so I did what remains the dumbest thing I've ever done, and left the Shelby in the street for what was left of the night. Well, when Carol woke me up with the infamous " I thought you brought the Shelby home ' line, I threw my pillow and a few choice words at her and told her how NOT FUNNY that was. Yep, not a joke it was GONE! This time it wasn't coming back and never did reappear. To this day, that was the most difficult phone call I've ever had to make, telling Rollie his Shelby was gone - AGAIN! That man never raised his voice to me, didn't fire me, and wouldn't allow any conversation of how I would repay him??!! A really classy person who showed mercy to a dumb kid that was crushed!

Nice 350 CQQLSSR.
Thanks Topspin. I live in a very small suburb backing onto the N Thompson River and surrounded by large acreages and Crown Land. We are considered the car mecca of the area because of the large lots being able to accommodate big workshops. I do like it here for the most part with ideal weather 8-9 months of the year. I traded the traffic congestion and rain from the coast for lots of sunshine and open roads but definitely gained some cold and snow Dec through March.
Well, that story had a pretty sad ending. I guess even then you had to chain them to something when parked. A couple of the blue and white AMX's joined us for the wine cruise at Penticton last year. '68 AMX, another car I would like to have. I LIKE a lot of different cars.
I love the '65-66 Shelby's and only prefer the '66 because of the change in the dash instrumentation.

How about Tri, or is that just a three way? I've owned a couple very cool Mopars too!
I have owned by far more Chevy's than anything else though, but I won't let the name stand between me and a cool car.
Usually it's just lack of money that does that.
