So, after a long weekend of hanging wallpaper and painting at my daughter's new home, Mark and I decided to take a much deserved and well earned topdown drive and just tool around town late yesterday afternoon. We headed down US-1 towards Grant, and, at Malabar road decided to head back west to try and find a Starbucks. I had made then generous gesture of allowing Mark to drive The Queen of Hearts (for, like, the third time EVER), but he was still the one to see a small classic car show going on At the Intersection of Babcock and Malabar Rd. We ehipped around and came back to check out several beautifully restored classics. As we pulled in, a gentleman was guiding other 'regular cars' to a lot next door, and we began to follow, when he gestured for us to back in next to the classics!!! What fun! He said we were driving a 'Specialty car' and thus could be considered part of the show!!! Ladies and Gents, I just fall more in love with this little Truck/Roadster/Car evertime I drive Her!!! Turns out twas a great group of folks...The Classic Reflections Car Club of Palm Bay....they invited us to several upcoming events and were just as sweet as can be! What an unexpected treat! as we sat there chatting, up comes this little fellow, about seven years old, with a slingshot in his hand...he had to run inside the bakery there to wash his SSR cuz it had sand on it!!! Of course, we put him in the passenger seat and showed him how the top went up and down and, I believe, created another fanatic right there and then!!! His Mom was tickled to death and so was he. His brothers? Not so much! Great day! Permagrin Indeed!

Nice... cute story.
I have to say tho... when you said slingshot I was expecting something bad was about to happen! lol I am so glad it was a toy car not a toy weapon! I looked for ya'll on the road this week-end. Melbourne is a nice little town.

He loved it! I loved it... it seems like a perfect fit for him too. Now I gotta figure out how to swing it financially. It costs almost as much as UM! Really tho, in the long run, I think he will have greater opportunity for success upon graduation from Florida Tech than UM... and he may have changed his major already. He was going in for computer engineering but he is throwing around aerospace engineering now. I need our resident rocket scientist to talk to him maybe.

I have done this at a red light just to see the young folks eyes light up. I so happy that you are enjoying your ride.
I can't COUNT how many times I've told the story '...and the SECOND DAY I had her, this great guy put a note on my SSR telling me about the Fanatics Forum....!' You are forever a part of my life story, you and Linda! What fun this has all been...and its just the beginning!

Cool Beth. We had that same thing happen to us when stumbling on a car show but my Mom was with me. When I pulled into park they guided me into the car show area My Mom just laughed and said Oh Sandy.
Also, when I park in an ordinary lot there always seems to be somebody right beside me when I leave even though I park at a distance from the entrance. At the San Diego Zoo we hadn't even got out of the truck when some old Subaru pulled in beside us. I thought MAN What Gives With These People? They got out of their car all smiles and said that it must be a great place to park if we picked it for our truck So now we know the rest of the story

Mark worls for them part time at Ft Leavenworth...sort of playing war games and testing the UAV's unmanned aircraft...can't say much more (don;t KNOW much more)...he'll be leaving that behind after one more exercise late this month....they do use ALOT of FIT people, tho!
There's a little cruise in that happens on either Fri or Sat nites in Merritt Island across the street from Target. Not sure if it's still going on but a good no rules collection of cars shows up.
WSSP - if he gets out in about 4 years, there might be jobs again. By then all of the experienced people will have been chased out of the space business and he can go join the fun of repeating all the mistakes of the past.

Gee, one would think you're thinking we might have a change in 'leadership' (I use the term loosely) in 4 years!

555... I know I should discourage him, but my reason is that I can't handle 2 rocket scientists in my life!

WOW...Just took a look back at this thread, not the sweet little story at the top, but the last coupla posts...now the shuttle program is completly shut down, thousands of jobs on the space coast lost... all I can think is, thank the Good Lord the Army called Mark back up when they did!!! We could literally be on the streets right now!!!
I don't think people realize the trickle down effect that all had on that area there...our little golf shop was already hurting. Small businesses and real estate was on the decline prior to that...we were truly blessed to have the oppurtunity we had...

Yep, I've changed jobs and location twice since then to stay ahead of what our elected officials (reluctant to call them leaders...) are doing to us as a country.
I soooo get you!!! Let's just wind back the Military, make the minimum wage 9 bucks an hour ( putting small businesses out of business,!!!) roll up gas prices to 4 bucks +...but, Jeez, I don;t know what the answer is...ARGHHHH
