How To Win Friends And Be The "Hit" Of The Neighborhood
I have had one of my demolition crews working at my house removing our pool, block fencing and concrete slabs in the back yard yesterday and today.
About 1:30 this afternoon, my foreman called and said "I think we hit a gas line".....I told him to get everybody out of there and we called the gas company.
EIGHT fire trucks later, after all of our neighbors had been evacuated, the gas company arrived, looked at the line and said "it's abandoned. The smell is the old gas still under pressure." : I wonder if the neighbors think it's funny.....

Doug, when I first saw the title of your post, I saw in my mind all of your neighbors waiting at the curb to grab up any good STUFF that you were throwing out. And then you go and do this to them. Boy are they MAD at..........

It didn't do any good in this instance, because it was abandoned, therefore Southwest Gas did not locate the line.
That's what you get for digging up a perfectly good pool in the middle of the desert...I'll have to tell Tim's brother about this, he's a SWGas construction supervisor

And might I add that our 22 yr old son and the crew were all standing out there patiently waiting to watch the "HOT" firelady take off her fire suit What we go thru to entertain the neighbors

Maybe you should go to a motel tonight. Pitch forks and torches suck! Carolyn isn't too happy with my abandoned gas line. She is looking for an upgrade!
I did pretty much the same thing early in the morning. After an inspection of the line and a hydraulic crimper closed the broken line. While almost every Fire Truck in the City was parked up and down my street. They could not leave untill PG&E repaired the line. So as the Union Worker goes, one guy had to install a couple of Couplers. Then wait a few hours for the next guy to purge the Line. And at 10:00 that evening they re-light all the Pilot lights. 11:00 the Fire Trucks leave. I too had the Gas Lines Traced and marked in Orange Paint. That would have been a very expensive fiasco if I had not called PG&E to locate the Gas and Electric. I too had some upset Neighbors.
