I'm Turning Blue But Thankfully Blue
I'm having a bad week and not sure it's going to get any better
Last week we turned the furnace on....ran good for two days then it started ticking but wouldn't ignite. Next day back to normal with no problems......ran the air all summer fine to. The furnace is aging though
Today I come home from work I have two carbon monoxide indicators one by the furnace and the other up in the hallway. The one in the basement is going off So I go down to check it out....the light is signally LB...OK No biggie.... so then I look down and a dehumidifier that we have next to the furnace is full of water I had Steve put the humidifier on for me the other day cause I knew he would forget......now the water that is supposed to be in the humidifier is leaking in the dehumidifier box.
Along with the LB signal the carbon monoxide testers was flashing a few other codes not knowing what they were I thought......hummm where did I put the booklet for this thing. Anyway I shut the furnace off safety precaution and headed to Wally World to get new batteries. Change out the batteries then start looking for the booklet. Searching under the kitchen sink as that's where I thought I kept it ......at this point I'm thinking you've got to be kidding underneath of the sink both sides of the cabinet are wet
Take a deep breath Debbie..................breathe
Got the batteries changed out ...put the furnace back on but still waiting for it to kick in as the house is still warm from the sunshine today need to see if the carbon monoxide tester goes off again.
Cleaned up under the sink so I can check to see where the water is coming from and made a few calls..................SOS
I am turning Blue but thankfully Blue to have a carbon monoxide tester in the home....keeping my fingers crossed thats all it is a Low Battery!!!
Well... better safe than sorry! CO isn't something to casually dismiss. I don't have a CO detector here, but then again, I don't have any combustion sources inside the house.
As far as the other calamities... yeah, I'm with you there too. Hopefully the kitchen sink is nothing more than a bad seal around the sink or faucet that can be fixed.
I knew I had a leak in the roof over my bathroom, but find out I had a bigger one in the back corner over the kitchen. The corner is badly damaged now so I will need to be tearing out the wall and possibly repairing rotted studs in the wall. The roof is redone now, so at least no additional water should be coming in.
Back in '05, I finally got tired of my ancient electric furnace going crazy on me and had the system replaced. I'm glad I did, but I should have done it a few years earlier. I could have saved a lot of money on my electric bill.

Steve put a call in for me a furnace guy (friend) is coming out to check with a sniffer to be sure all if fine My dad was a furnace man for a long time....he has only been able to help me these day with the little things.
Found the water leak under the sink..........damn I'm getting good at these household chores The faucet is the culpurate I'm still in my work clothes.....climbing in under the sink Gonna go get changed and see if I can't tighten the little suckers up maybe it's time for a new faucet

Sometimes it's all the reason you need to make a few renovations.

I have a feeling you'll hate me for saying this.
With Steve new work hours, maybe it time to sell, move to a gated community, scale back on the size home you need as the kids as out aren't they?

Do you have plumbers tape. Rather than overtighten you might undo the lines and tape the threads to reseal them. Don't forget to turn off the water though. If it is the faucet itself it might be the rubber o-ring (seals) up top. Replace by removing the cold and hot taps. Did you remember to shut the water off?
I was thinking with all those varying water issues you maybe had one of those rare "Michigan hurricanes" while you were out.

Their house is already on the modest size. I'm sure it's just the age of things starting to catch up. My house was redone by a cheap bastard years ago so everything was the lowest cost thing you could get. Doesn't last as long and it's all falling apart now.

Don't over tighten or you might have more damage than you might already have!
Thanks I just laughed my azz off reading these two posts...I needed that!!!
I didn't over tighten.....it's still leaking. Off to Lowes for a new faucet tomorrow. The faucet is most definitely a goner. As far as the furnace the guy can't get here till tomorrow night so I'm turning it off for tonight and will be pulling out the winter clothing
I had no idea I was that flexible.....had someone come thur the backdoor they never would have known where I was I could have shut both cabinet doors and really screwed with someone

The home was built in 1983 and yes slowly some updates are getting done....but not as quickly as I would like them to.

Mine was built in '73. I dunno when the "remod" was done, but probably after the fire damage. I just spent about 30-40 minutes playing with my technical drawing software (Visio) doing a floor plan on how I would envision my kitchen.
No suggestions on how to keep your house toasty other than use a space heater or fireplace. I know that if I have issues, I just gotta fire up my 50" HDTV... thing can really heat things up when left on for a long time.
