Long lost Bugatti pulled from Italian lake
July 14, 2009
A 1925 Bugatti Type 13 Brescias was pulled from a lake in northern Italy on Sunday.
According to several online sources, the submerged Bugatti was originally discovered by divers in Lake Maggiore over 50 years ago. At that time, however, no efforts were made to retrieve it.
Historians believe it is one of three Type 13 Brescias ordered for Switzerland, but abandoned when importation fees were not paid.
More recently, The Life Guard Society of Ascona worked with the Boerlin Lavori Subacquei Society to find and recover the car. It was finally pulled from the lake Sunday to a large crowd of curiosity seekers. The event, along with the future auctioning of the heavily rusted Bugatti, was established to benefit the fight against youth violence on part of the Damiano Tamagni Foundation.
