This time out, She ran flawlessly. Straight down the road to the corner station to the pump way back in the corner. The only station around thet sells racing fuel at the pump. I can get better fuel from my oil supplier, but he aint open on Sundays.

Ran her through the gears and it felt pretty good.

Got the Mobile 1 and a new filter so I'll change it tomorrow.

The mustang is still in the shop. Changed the trans fluid and filter and filled it back up. Went through the gears on the stands and had everything but Reverse. I'll have to call my buddy at his trans shop and find out whats going on with that thing.

You can always call Greg too if he doesn't chime in here first.

Send two if you can spare them. If I am successful you get one back and the other I display at car shows. "Belonged to Fuzzy"

Fuzzy, is your C4 used or rebuilt? Do you know if it had reverse before it came in? Reverse is partially controlled by a rubber piston servo at the rear side of the case(drivers side) it applies the reverse band. Sometimes the piston will get hard and shrink allowing fluid to bypass and not apply the band. The biggest problem though, is the band, which will break at the lug that engages the band strut. Did you find anything odd in the pan when you pulled it down?

It is the original trans yet.

When I pulled the pan I only found sludge from many years of driving. Nothing gritty or any chunks.

It did have reverse when I reinstalled. Actually drove it around a bit before I told the customer it was ready. After the customer picked it up he called and said he had trouble keeping it in gear,

When I checked this after I picked it up on the trailer. It would only stay engaged if you had the throttle up. Sounded like a vacum module or leak. I put a new hose on the module and now it has all the forward gears, but no reverse.

It may be the reverse servo.

Would the vacum module effect the reverse?

I'm not a fan of Automatics. I stick with heavy duty 4 spds

Well, so much for trying to get this fixed while it was attached to the car. Called the owner today and told him we had no reverse, but did have all the forward gears, Gave him an option of getting another used trans or rebuilding this one.

After a discussion with his wife they called back and said Pull it and rebuild the F@%#@. I think hes getting as much ticked at this Mustang as I am. I want it to leave my shop and be enjoyed , as I'm sure he wants to take it out and enjoy it.

So tonight I spent a few hours removing the trans, along with everything else that was in the way to get it out. Tomorrow it goes to the tranny shop here in town. I'm gonna put a rush on it so I can get the mustang down the road.

I'm messing around with a 1971 351C/C4 combo, originally a H-code 2v motor from a Ranchero 500, but my build will be to Boss 351 specs, with the exception of the big valves. You (all) have answered several head-scratchers, so far.

Thank You!

The vacuum won't effect the reverse operation on the C4, sorry you had to pull it but at least this way the old trans can be freshened up for another 30 or 40 years of service.

That's what we figured too. If it's acting up now it'll probably only get worse, and I sure wouldn't want one of my customers stranded on the road somewhere.

RUN ROD RUN "FUZZY, How about some pictures of that _____stang you putting up with for another night or too."

I'll get a pick of it when I go out to load the trans in the truck, then post it later.
