navy ranking help needed

I recieved a letter from the navy today which was scarry because my son is out to sea with now way of contacting him.it was good news he got promoted but I dont know what rank he is. the letter says promoted to ships serviceman first class then later to first class petty officer. I was in the army so this is greek to me. any ideas?

Yes he is a E-6 now in the Navy same as a SFC in the Army does that help?
