MY old Garmin 750 disappeared sometime in the last few months with stand and all. Can't see how I could have misplaced it with it all be together. Anyhow I got to buy a new one. Looking for imput on the newer models especially the one that have the 5" screens and free updates. Looking so far at the 50 series. Any imput would be good

Perhaps you need one that bolts in place. With your advanced age we can’t expect your mind to be in focus all the time. One that can’t be misplaced will ease the burden and stress on you and your caring supporting family.

Can't help.... I have a Nuvi 750 series as well... and for now, I'm not planning to replace it.
I know some people love to put the big in-dash navigation radio head units, but to me, it's an inviting target for theft and I have to wonder how accurate are the maps and how often are they updated?

For what's it worth, Doug . . .
My research proved paying more only gets you more "Whistles and Bells" that many of us will never use. Go for the largest screen and the free lifetime updates at the best price.

GPS's
GPS's are the greatest thing ever. I have had several over the last 5 plus years and they just keep getting better.
I prefer the Garmin.
The 5" use caution as some have no battery for portable operation.
I currently have two:
1300 LM , very basic and inexpensive, $99.00 at times at Costco. 4.3" average resolution, Includes free map updates but a pain to update, takes 3+hours on line.
3760 T expensive,$300.00 or so but is an excellent product excellent resolution (i-phone like feel and screen features) Free traffic, handy at times, can tilt vertical or horzontal, finger tip zoom, but gets very warm while charging and during use.
Best price on a bean bag mount was @ Office Depot $24.00 real Garmin mount
If you can handle each and feel / play with them b4 buying.

Nowadays, how often do you see new streets and freeways put in?

Often enough. A new 6-lane highway here between I-95 and I-270 just opened 2 months ago, but it's usually new housing developments. Years ago when I went to go visit my brother, my GPS didn't have his neighborhood at all. I had to navigate to a point on the closest main route. Google maps helped out on that. I've been through road or highway interchanges that had been completely re-engineered. Usually it's not a problem to figure out where you're going.

Before GPS came along, how often do either of you go out and get new folding maps.

Right.. toll roads! That new highway here is a toll road. So, you can program the unit to not take them.
Also, forgot to mention, more important that new roads.... how about all the waypoints? gas stations or restaurants come and go. Having that updated info is really useful.
The Garmin I have ($250 two years ago model 3???free updates) Will tell you the lane splits ahead so you know if you have to move over or can stay in same lane to veer off. That and the traffic flow slow or reg, up ahead is the big help from my old unit. And we always look for a dinner to eat. So updates are very important to us.
I have three units, just keep updating them as I don’t misplace mine.

we just replaced our old Garmin (not worth the fee for updates). Just went to Costco last week and picked up a Garmin Nuvi 1490 LMT for $189. I like the feature it has that allows for entering a remote city and finding a store there. So far we like it even though we haven't used it much

In 1980 we rode motorcycles east. My buddy got out his folding maps to plan our route. I knew we needed better/newer maps when "Flying A" was on the cover and Route 66 was the main road.

We have 3 Garmin GPS's.
I use the older one (w/udpated maps) a nuvi 1350, and a new 1490LMT which is still in the box.
I'll never buy another unit unless is has the free updates.
I guess I'm still old fashioned 'cause I still like to have a Road Atlas on hand.

So you have 3 GPS's. And your telling you never misplace them? Why that many? Did you have a mental lapse and bought another and forgot that you already own one?
