Didn't they give you the option to do traffic school and wipe the ticket off your record (after you pay it, that is)?

Be thankful you're weren't in CT. If one is caught in excess of 85 mph here, it's considered reckless driving and that means loss of drivers license. Having said that, undoubtedly there must be ways of getting out of it or at least getting some type of relief. Anyway, I sure hope you don't lose your license.
I had this with my son and his GST. We had to get a local lawyer who works in the local court This helped alot ..he paid for it in$ and had to attend drivers class NY but he could have been locked up in some countys around upstate NY so Get a local lawyer to help you Do not just go in by yourself

What is the top speed on that thing. If it is not at least 96, I would get a lawyer and claim the radar was off.
Im Going In Before My Date To Apear. As It Said On The Ticket Must Appear On Or Before The Date. I Know I Was Wrong. I Also Have To Drive Over 300 Miles To Get There As I Called And Was Told It Was 31 Over And It Is A Must Appear. So I Guess Ill Go In Surrender My Lic And Take My Woopen Like A Good Boy...........

You might be able to call the prosecutor and see if they will accept a guilty plea to either a lower speed or maybe even some kind of non-moving violation. Good luck!!

Good Luck, just be honest and the judge may have mercy. As a cop said to me recently, Don't lie, Don't argue, Don't deny...

Radar ?
I have heard that you can question the calibration records of the radar equipment because your car can not go that fast. You may want to talk to a lawyer as mentioned in a previous post. They know there way around the court room and will tell you iff you are in trouble or not.

I would try and get to court early and find out who the prosecutor is and talk with him and ask if there anything he can do, tell him you come from a LE background and that you were very stupid. He has the authority with the PO's agreement can reduce the charge.
good luck

Mark anything over 20 + you could lose your license ... but then the judge might not believe you could go that fast in a little Honda.
BTW: You just might want to quote the police officer for an ice breaker.
You might want to waste a day and sit in court and see how tough they are before your court date. You'll see what kind of punishments they give for your type of ticket and maybe you'll be better prepared on how to plead.
I got a speeding ticket in VA and that got me so depressed I bought my SSR that day to cheer me up. So it wasn't the SSR I got the ticket in, it was a little Neon.
When I finally went to court I had good reason to be depressed. I watched as everyone who was 20 MPH over the speed limit get jail time. Most of the time was suspended, but it was always some amount of jail time they had to do.
In VA, going 20 MPH over the speed limit is reckless driving and I didn't know at the time that they gave jail time for that.
Luckily for me, I was only 15 MPH over the speed limit. When I got stopped, the trooper was originally was going to give 20 MPH over but forgot we were in a faster speed zone than he thought, 65 MPH instead of 60 MPH, which I pointed out to him. The other interesting thing was that he shot me from behind him. In VA the troopers have both forward and backwards pointing radars in their cars, which I did not know about. So he got me way behind him, and later after I had already slowed down, and BTW he slowed to a crawl and almost stopped on the side of the road to get me, he sped up and then pulled me over. It was a bogus bust, but I couldn't say anything to get out of it. I was going to a VA hospital for some 24 hour blood tests and the earlier I got there, the earlier I could go home the next day. That's why I was going so fast that morning. The tests didn't pan out anyway and on the way home I stopped to look at an SSR at a dealer I saw earlier. My wife who was sleeping in the car didn't know what I was doing when we stopped at the dealer, and didn't expect that I would buy it, especially since I never did any real research on it.
Back to the ticket. Since I was a out of state driver and not going over 20 MPH over the speed limit they let me do driving school instead of a fine, which was fine with me.
Back to court, I watched a young soldier going to Quantico with his whole squad get taken to jail, even after he was punished by the military and his Sargent came and spoke highly of him and told of his military punishment. The judge didn't care and he had to do 10 days in jail. It was terrible to see the young soldier taken away in handcuffs.
One trick on beating tickets is try and postpone the court date, and make the trooper come at another time. Sometimes they don't show, but that's a longshot because of the speed that is involved.

I have had 2 25+ speeding tickets this year (damn Z06! ). The first one was 25+ in a school zone, but amazingly they let me pay the ticket and take an online driving course, then took the points off my record when I showed proof of passing the course. The 2nd one I could not take the school option (you can only take it 1 time per 12 months, and 5 times in your lifetime), but they just made me pay the ticket and put the points on my license this time. Maybe Florida is very lenient??

Yes, I suspect that Florida is lenient. So is Georgia, if the stories above are any indication.
I have a friend who is chronically late to work, and she received two tickets for doing 90+ mph in 70 mph zones within a year. As long as she simply admitted that she was guilty (i.e., did not waste the court's time arguing a case) and was willing to pay large fines, she did not even get points on her driving record. I think the state or the court system is just interested in the money.

My "lifetime" supply ran out long ago. Now I call the Ticket Clinic. You pay them $75.00 plus court costs. No points, no insurance hike and no hassle. It's almost too easy... Lawyer up. ( not that I'm fond of lawyers...)

Welcome to California, everyone.
Everyone has to appear in court. It's mandatory.
Drive your SSR and enjoy the 300 mile drive.
The judge will (most likely) ask you only one question: Do you plead guilty, or not guilty?
If you plead guilty, you will have a court date, and need to be represented by a lawyer. If you go to court, the officer is paid extra to be in court, and they rarely do not appear. Do not count on their absense! If you were cited by lazer forget contesting the accuracy. On the other hand, radar has to be calibrated, and maybe they didn't? It's a chance you can take.
If you plead not guilty, you will have to attend traffic school, and pay a fine. At over 15mph the penalities change from Infraction to Misdemeanor, and the points to your license change. I don't know the other details, but my daughter pled guilty to 85mph (+20mph), and attended traffic school, paid a fine, and did 8 hours community service, but her license wasn't pointed, or her insurance raised.
I was cited at +14 miles over 65mph on the freeway. As I was lazered, I pled guilty. Luckily, the next question was: Do you want to attend traffic school? It is the judge's discression to ask you that. I attended traffic school at home with Blockbuster Video's DVD rental. It costs $39.00 for 3 days. Full of repeated information, and droll... Still, I have no infraction on my record, no points on my license, and need to slow down for 18 months so I do not get a second, which will be bad for my points and insurance. As I usually drive 85mph, and only get a speeding ticket every 10 years, it has been hard to do. I put my radar detector away and am using cruise control, but July 16, 2008 can not come soon enough!
