I am thinking of getting a crossover type vehicle, such as the Honda CRV or Chevy Equinox. I would like to know if any of you, my extended family, have one already and can give any input on your experiences. If you don't have one and know anything about any of them, tell me that also. All information appreciated.
My SSR: Slingshot Yellow VIN 20778 Born 05 May 2005 (05/05/05)

Not much help on the CRV but I do know a bunch of "horror stories" with the Toyota Highlander . . . AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Personally, I'm with Big Blue Ox and would go with the Saturn Outlook or Vue!
My SSR: '06 Pacific Blue 3SS, Chrome, FPR #23962 - Kooks, Corsa and Supercharged!
Nancy (Mrs. CrosscheckFreak) loves her '05 Equinox. I think there's about 40,000 miles on it...never a problem. Although, she does like her Envoy better. I don't think the Equinox has left the property since January.
I kinda like the Equinox too...it's got some zip. Although with 5 kids...It could get a little cramped in there. Have you thought about an Acadia or Enclave?
A friend of mine recently got a CRV. I'm not a fan of anything foreign (too patriotic for that), but so far he's satisfied with it. Me, it's a bit lack luster, but then Honda's aren't known for their style.

The HighFLOUNDER is what I call it! Speaking of PLAGUES - toyotas are the PLAGUE around here; they outnumber everything.

From friends experience, avoid the FJ, and the Outlook (Lookout!) too. Just the VUE... per NYTimes, R&T, Consumer Reports, all good... well, heavy, but safe. Like the SSR!
My SSR: 2006 Slingshot Final Production Run #23343.

We own a 2007 CRV. We are very unsatisfied with this vehicle. Lots of wind noise & road noise. All wheel drive makes noises when making sharp slow speed turns. If your on a flat hiway & no wind your okay. In windy & hilly conditions the 4 cyl. engine works hard. We have had it for 1 year & 15000 miles & are now looking at the Hyundai Veracruze or Buick Enclave. In my opinion if most of your driving is in city the CRV is adequate. On the highway, no, no, no!!!
My SSR: 05 Silver 1SB, Born on 08/25/04, Lighted WindsuppSSR, Flowmaster 40, Black Wheels w/ Firestone Tires
My wife has a 2005 Nissan Murano, front wheel drive. she would not trade it for anything. She drove the VUE before the Murano. She prefers the Murano. we looked at several others, Highlander, RAV4, Pilot, CRV, Equinox etc.

The German Opal version VUE is brand new for 2007. 2008 should have a hybrid as well.

Definately going to take it out on the interstate to test drive. I am waiting for them to get an 08 in. I hate wind noise.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I like the looks of the CRV and the Equinox best I think, but I really don't know still. I kind of also like the look of the new Nissan Rouge, but kyssr is completely against Nissan. I'm going keep checking around.
We have a 2007 Saturn VUE, 12k miles, a year old in NOV. No problems at all.
V6...AWD.....5-speed auto......250 hp motor / with a lot of zip.
Mileage is 22 around town and 24/25 on the highway.
Gotta love those dent and rust resistant body panels.
My SSR: 03. Custom paint. Flowmaster 40, lake pipes, 4.56's, torque converter, Vette servo, Bosal tips.
My opinon
Personally I like the GMC Acadia. I think GMC did a great job styling this vehicle. My second choice would be the Buick Enclave. Then the Vue, then the CRV. This is just based on looks not how well they drive. Here are some pics.
My wife purchased a CRV the same month I got the SSR. Her 2005 has never had a single issue, problem, event or anything abnormal in any way. I love my SSR but I love having her CRV to drive while the R is in the shop all the time.

I like some of the regular SUVs as well, but looking at the crossovers (smaller size). Haven't looked at the Vue, but from the pictures looks a lot like the CRV, need to check some reviews on that one.

I would go CRV RAV4 or that new Hyundai I cant think of the name of it off hand. They have the best warranty.
With five kids you're gonna be hard pressed to fit all in the vehicle at the same time with a crossover. None of them have a third row and they only seat 5. Personally I would go with a SUV with a third row if I had 5 kids anyway.
