I asked for prayers for my mum because I know prayer works, but her situation is moving along even better than I could have hoped. I do thank you all for your prayers, and you have my blessings.
I've been gone another week, but am so glad to read this post.
Prayers do work !
Hopefully we can still "pick you up" on the way to Maggie Valley. I'm sure you could use the mini vacation.
I just noticed you posting on a couple "Prayer" threads.
bty: How is your Mum doing?
Well, knowing for a fact that prayer helps, I do pray. Knowing that it comforts people to know that other people care and are praying for them, I try to get a post in on the subject, just so they know.
Anyway,
We do have more information. There is still no evidence in any images or testing that the condition is cancer. And despite the fact that this should be a really stressful time for us all, we all seem to be holding up very, very well.
The doctor says (and I agree wholeheartedly!) that my mum needs surgery to get all this 'stuff gone bad' out of there. She has more pre-op testing scheduled, which is rather extensive for her since she has pre-existing health concerns, some of which go back decades.
There is a tentative date set for her sugery: May 9, a Friday. That works great for me as I do not work on Fridays, so I can be there but not have to involve missing work. Not that I am addicted to my job,ha, ha, but I am a caregiver for a dementia patient, and taking time from work causes some extra anxiety for the patient, plus the fact I'd hear a hundred or more times a day for the next few months things like, "How's your mother?" and "I'm so sorry about your mother."
In conclusion, I say the prayers are working!

LOL. You'd never guess that two weeks ago she was sitting in a doctor's office while he was telling her that she most likely has cancer. Every test and scan they do shows things are getting a little better with each new day. It helps that she has a good doctor now, regardless of what happens next. I am now trying to plan for what she will need around the house post surgery. She is taking all of this very well.

Good news.
As for me and my house, we Pray!!!
Vicki, is she still trying to get you to leave next weekend?
My mother has her pre-op at the hospital tomorrow. So, today, she had a "pre-pre-op" telephone call. Yep, the nurse who called went through the ENTIRE pre-op questionnaire about medicines/health history/surgery experiences, etc. I think the call took 45 minutes. Still, I bet they make her do it all again tomorrow. I hate, just hate, those intense, repetitive pre-op interrogations. Can't they find jobs for those folks at Gitmo, or something??!!
My mother was concerned after this call. Not depressed nor upset, but certainly concerned. The nurse today told her to expect to be in the hospital for at least several days. She had been led to believe her hospital stay would be a 'day' like mine was. And her surgery is not scheduled until 1:00 pm on the 9th. What a long hungry day waiting for the surgery!

They just want to make sure they have all the bases covered... like taking antibiotics before a surgery... keeps thing from going wrong. Make sure she has a very nice large dinner the night before....
Make sure Mother knows that we're all in her corner... good thoughts and prayers are consistantly coming her way!!!

We spoke with the surgeon after the procedure. Her surgeon said everything in her abdominal region looked really good...but he sent the tissues he removed for a basic frozen section study while he was completing the surgery...and the report came back 'malignant.'
He seemed somewhat surprised by this diagnosis, as all the tests to this point had indicated there was no cancer. He believes the cancer might be confined to the center of the mass, which would be a "simple" Stage 1 endometrial cancer . If so, then the surgery itself is the treatment, and my mother will simply need to be monitored for the next few years.
We will know more when the pathology report comes back next week.
