Pete Rose

Anyone else read Pete Roses' autobiography? Would like to know your opinion on his position regarding the Baseball Hall of Fame.

I haven't read his autobiography.

I am a Pete Rose fan from way back, and think he deserves a place in the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a player in baseball, always have.

I also do not believe there should be any mention of his coaching years, due to gambling. Did he ever throw a game due to gambling? We'll never know.

I agree regarding his place in the Hall of Fame. His on the field play speaks for itself in spite of the way he handled the investigations into his gamling habits.

He doesn't deserve any alcolades for his personality but he was a tremendous baseball player.

I have not read Pete Rose's Autobiography either and I do not plan to buy it but . . .

However, I'm gonna disagree with you guys . . . The Baseball Hall of Fame is for The Best of The Best and Pete Rose broke the rules and should NOT be admitted. The same applies to all of the players that opted to cheat with steroids or other "enhancing" drugs.

I agree.... the admission to the hall is not just doing the accompaniment but doing it with honor and fairly....

pete rose

like ty cobb was a goody two shoes, mickey mantle a drunk, other pitchers who readily admitted throwing spit balls, (which is/was illegal) pete rose should be in the hall of fame on his accomplishments, no one will ever top his statistics while he was playing. he didnt cheat, no steroids as some have associated with his playing, let me know when you have ever seen pete giving less than 110% and do you really think he would bet on his team losing ? get real ! did micheal jordan bet ? charles barkley ?

ty cobb you are correct ... Mantle ... yes Whitey Ford a drunk also... spit balls yes alot of pitchers did it ....Pete Rose never quit played hard ,very hard all the time...bet on games ,I don't know for sure but the court of public opinion got Rose.....and the info the MLB put out...the MLB wanted a new type of players to enter the HOF...clean cut, HONEST etc.. if there wasn't so much bad media painting Rose a bad guy... I think he would be in.. but the liberal media got a hold of it and painted Rose a bad person and maybe , yes maybe said or printed some stuff that wasn't exactly true about the the man...
you have to remember back in the old days there was not all the media following all the p[layers everyday, every minute , every second of the day and night...
most of what you read about all the old players did not come out until long after they either quit the game or died....I do think Rose was the best all round players in the game....nobody played the game as hard as he did, nobody, and that goes for todays pimaDonna's....... A-rod could not hold a candle to Pete...

I have not read Pete’s book nor do I plan to. He seems like a real A$$ and absolutely broke the rules but should be in the hall due to what he did on the field. For what it’s worth Shoeless Joe should also be in the hall. After all it was a lifetime ban and, well, you get the point.

Very valid point, Tony

Bottom line . . . TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT

Attempting to justify Pete Rose's off field stunts with other off field stunts won't fly.

Like I said earlier, I didn't read the book.

So, question, isn't this issue about Pete and the Hall of Fame supposedly related to Pete's day as a baseball player ... not as manager which, as I understand, is when all these other allegation took place?

What I'm trying to say is who cares what an individual does after his playing days on the field is over?

Who says when you done playing the game, you got to continue being a roll model for other to follow for the rest of your life. Now that

Pete Rose was gambling on everthing his entire career. I fhe didnt bet on baseball games while he played I would be very suprised . If they had caught him when he was betting he would have been banned then and would not have been around to make any records.
