Not to hijack the thread, but if you've ever gone into a tight, uphill right-hand turn, that THING in the middle of the windshield COMPLETELY obscures your view I keep mine flexed up as high as possible to give me maximum vis, but... I'm just under 5'10". What do TALL people do?!?

Now Sandy you wouldn't be asking us to be contributing to your bad behavior now would you But since you asked I bought Mr Duck the Valentine because his Beemer riding buddy recommended it and believe me they both need them when they get together for a bike ride. And I do believe it has paid for itself more than once. I paid 400 and some people may think that is alot but as the old saying goes YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!
And since we have these fun trucks they should be driven It is very hard to do the limit when you are out in the great wide open because all you want to do is hold it wide open.
there doesn't seem to be any current threads about which radar detectors fanatics are using. We're looking to buy a new one (I know, it would have saved me in WY ). I found a Beltronics that we'll go see tomorrow. Any other recommendations?
I'm a Valentine 1 user too. I know it has saved me many many times.
Hook Up:
I found a company that sells a powder coated bracket that installs under the visor hold down bracket. It uses a longer screw. I also found another company that sells a RS232 cable that will plug into the V1 and then into a switchable hot lead and ground on the back sode of the mirror.
This allows for quick transfer and removal of the unit for cops and for vehicle servicing. It also keeps the unit high enough that it receives a better signal and is out of your line of vision.
Another recent addition is a iPhone 4 add on (for free) that downloads to your iPhone 4 and allows you to look at flagged radar traps reported by other users on Google Maps and it also transfers the arrows and counter on the V1 to the iPhone 4 to provide a visual map reference of our friends in blue doing their jobs.

I'd venture to say if you haven't had a speeding ticket in your SSR, you just aren't enjoying it as much as you could be!
I used a bicycle reflector bracket to mount my V1 to the mirror neck. It can be removed, but I usually don't. It does not block my view as much as flashing red lights in my mirror, either. The laws restrict attachments to the windshield surface (lower corners for I.D. stickers are allowed) to cover suction brackets, decals, and tints. Mounting the detector as I did is legal.

drum roll please......
we went shopping and then driving today. I went with copies of prices from some .com stores. That alone saved me $100 So, for $285 we ended up getting the Beltronics RX65 Blue Professional unit.
It's a long weekend here so the cops were out in full force. They use the K and Ka bands and I remember hearing the voice say X band as well. I think it actually saved me from a ticket heading away from Harrison Lake I'm sure I would have come out of a corner a lot faster had that thing not lit up.
Thanks everyone for your input. I didn't want to buy from a mail order, but preferred to go to an actual store (ended up at Visions).
Something to know about when driving in B.C. - as of September 20th if you're caught driving more than 40 km/h over the posted limit, they will impound your car on the spot (for 7 days). And a huge fine no doubt.
So, unless we encounter a bear in the air, we're good to go :

I thought we were overrun by high Ticket costs. Cali isn't the cheapest place to Drive. But we may beat Canada.

In Ontario 50km (30mph) gets your car impounded for 7 days and a HUGE fine and 7 points! AND radar detectors are illegal

I wish this tread happened two years ago. Could have save me a lot of money I spent for the retirement fund in N.V. It was only 106mph in my '95 Buick Riviera with the smooth Bridgestone Tires. Problem I wasn't looking at the highway going North just rear, front and side. Nevada laws stats over 100mph impound vehicle and spend a few relaxing days in the Nevada Hotel without a bonus package with gambling chips. Only thing that save me from this special discount offer was clear, no traffic, pulled over when he turned around from going north, impressed with '95 Riviera and no tickets since 1976 in my '65 Buick Riviera GS. So, back in 1976 I can personally tell you in Tustin on the I55 going a little to fast and a radar detector which the CHP didn't like in vehicle. The Judge didn't think was a good item to have in vehicle and a little speed contest between a Riv and Corvette at 1:00 am was such a good idea. Speeding ticket wasn't as bad as having the radar detector mounting on the padded dash.
So, thanks too Sandy I have some good ideas about reducing my helping balancing the State, County and City budget.
